If I had to try and get a grown dog away from poop quickly, I'd much rather it be Yorkie than a GSD!

Well, first off my GSD never eats poo. She thinks its disgusting and runs from it. And... at least she's not a rat dog. They can't even be trained to go outside... so please, leave the GSD alone.

You guys have no idea how much poop that puppy ate... she ate every poop she could get at completely, also rubbed it all over her face and mouth and the crate and floor and me... if you think this is normal and something worth keeping in your house... i am shocked. I have to tell you its not just a little small habit she has... she has a huge problem... its not as insignificant as you make it sound. I know, some dogs will try it sometimes... but this dog actually seemed to prefer to eat it instead of food. Do you think that is very healthy for it?

Yes, but at least these land mines are not inside your house as they would be with any Yorkie and you won't be stepping in them bare footed ;)

Coprophagia is something that can be treated with something as simple as vigilance and pineapple added to the diet.

Since you consider Yorkies to be "rat dogs", I wonder why on earth you would have bothered to buy one in the first place. It absolutely sounds like returning her to the breeders was the BEST thing for this dog.

BTW, if you say that Yorkies can't be trained to go outside, then you obviously don't know how to housebreak a dog. What is true is that you can't shove them outside for hours on end like so many people do to bigger dogs.

They *are* rat dogs... in the sense that they hunt rats.

Never ever seen or heard of a yorkie that was fully house broken. I knew she never would be, but I didn't expect her to eat it all too. My GSD was fully house broken in 3 days, it required no leaving her outside -- simply taking her out on a leash for a few minutes and she did all her business. After these 3 days there were never any accidents again.

Never had a problem....my pups are properly trained....but, then any dog owner knows to look down when walking if dogs are around.....2 reasons.....one you might step on a pup or if dogs aren't trained and confined well then you suffer the consequences.

You're right you aren't right for a yorkie and more suited to outside dogs.....

And yet she pooed in her crate on the way home last night and didn't eat it.

My Yorkie thank you very much is trained to go outside. And just what actions did you take to correct this behaviour. First before answering look up the threads here on What can be done. But first and foremost if I had a dog that ate poop, I would make sure I would pick up poop immediately.

I have never had a dog that pooed in crate, but I do know sometimes that happens. Usually because the owner has left the dog too long in crate, or there was a tummy upset

Quite simply you didn't have enough gumption and caring to deal with the problem, to research solutions, and to spend the time needed to correct this behaviour.

Three wks is literally a blink of the eye, in the raising of a good dog.

Never ever seen or heard of a yorkie that was fully house broken. I knew she never would be, but I didn't expect her to eat it all too. They were bred for rat hunting, that is no longer.

If a yorkie isn't fully house broken then it's the owner's fault.....mine are.

Then you are better suited for a GSD....don't they have their own forum. Since you don't like yorkies and aren't knowledgable about how to train one I don't understand why you would want to be on a Yorkie forum.

Yeah, i'm sure she was in the crate. Actually, the breeder told us to never put her in the crate in the car. So I doubt it was in a crate and that explains why she didn't eat it. JM2C

100% trained? Don't believe it. I don't think anyone here would believe you either. But like I said, I don't mind that as much as the fact that she eats it. The problem with trying to pick it up right away is that you can't always do it, cause she manages to poop in the crate or playpen when you aren't looking, aren't around or at night. Of course I tried to take away every poop I could, but its not as easy as you make it sound to catch her in time.

She was only in the crate for the night, otherwise she was in a large playpen. I also took her outside probably every half hour. But she didn't go there, she preferred to do it inside and then eat it.

I tried, but its too much to keep up with when nothing seems to be working. Its bad enough she can't be housebroken.

Excuse me mine are. Many on here are also trained to go outside. Yorkies are harder to train and have very small bladders hence many people use a pee pad-most people research such prior to adoption so they know they type of training to prepare for.

Furthermore, all dog breeds are known to eat poop it's not specific to any one breed, definitely not specific to Yorkies and it was not an attack on GSD either. It was said by me to inform people...sharing of information...the purpose of YT. Education, information, support, and fun.etc.

Poop eating is like potty training, it requires training...and is in no way a guarantee of defect-especially in a puppy. If the pup ate an unreal amount of poop it was in fact in danger in your care IMHO.

Many people love "rat dogs" they haves spent the time researching the Yorkie (and other terrier) breeds and are well aware of their original function as ratters. Why did you get a Yorkie in the first place if you have such negativity to say about them now...says more about you, your personality and what type of person you are with such a statement than anything else. I understand you are angry over the responses here, but people here were also...they were out of concern for the "rat dog"

Okay I'm done with this thread, off my so called pedastool- it's going down hill big time now...plus Elvis my Yorkie is scratching on the slider to go in the yard-no really he is...

Please consider the aspects required in training before getting any dog, puppy, of any breed, and weather or not you have the time, effort or ability to devote to it all. Let alone research prior...

It was the right thing to do to return the pup to the breeder if it wasn't working out-especially since she seems to be a caring and concerned responsible breeder-I commend you for that Tuntun.

Disagree. No one has them fully trained. I'm sure you know that. Sure, they may go outside sometimes or even most of the time. But all the time? No.

Yes, I am trying to go but you guys keep writing back insults regarding my dog. The mod should just lock this thread. Don't you guys have other people to help on this forum? With things like potty training and floor cleaners? :P

I never did any harm to anyone here, so I am saddened that you are all so aggressive. Its my hope that there are normal kind people on this forum but they just aren't replying...

Three weeks isn't enough time to completely cure Coprophagia. Educating yourself would have shown you that. We have a wonderful thread on it here by Megansmama (we call her the poop guru) with a method that is nearly always successful when employed by a conscientious, motivated owner. Again, there's no shame in admitting you weren't up to the challenge. The pup will be better off with someone who is.

Then you obviously haven't taken the time to get to know a properly trained and socialized Yorkie. Yorkies are TERRIERS. Very smart, but very stubborn. They take a strong owner that is up to the challenge. Not everyone is.
