I paid $475 for Minnie, a woman who I know sold her to me at that price. Her first vet visit was almost $150 for shots (incl bortedella), worming pill, puppy exam and flea preventative. That is not including all the toys and food we have bought her and she is stocked up on food for months. If the pup is from a pet store do not get it. Get to know a small time breeder, meet the parents etc. I still keep in touch with the woman who we got Minnie from. I called her to ask if she was going to have any more YT babies and said no Do your research.

Also the free vet visit is a paid one by the company so they will more than likely lie to you about the condition of the pup. Petland is the same way, their vets are paid to see the animals bought from that chain of stores.

I looked the site over...run..run away...pup mill brokers as far as I can see, blatantly too.

I found Hercules on a website and I only paid $600 for him, but my breeder had me come to her house several times and I met his mom and daddy. She had me meet her at the vet, but she let him go home with me at 8 wks. I didn't know he wasn't suppose to b/c I always hear of ppl adopting out puppies at 8 wks. Is it different for different breeds?

He is getting big fast, (well bigger).

8 weeks is a minimum for other breeds (large) and in accordance with some state laws that's the all breed minimum with the exception of rescues: small breed dogs it's 12 weeks minimum: but it could be 14...depends on the breeder and their ability to say yes now this pup is ready...read on here somewhere about a breeder who didn't send a pup home until 16 weeks old.

OP - You really want to be careful if you only have a $400 budget to purchase the puppy. Have you thought about the cost of lifelong care of any dog? Even a healthy dog is going to have annual expenses that may be out of your budget if you aren't planning accordingly - monthly heart worm and flee prevention, booster shots, etc. If you have $400 to pay for a puppy, I would suggest you save at least another $400 for initial expenses - spay/neuter, wellness check, puppy boosters, and supplies (pee pads, food, bowls, bedding etc.) and then start looking. I'm not suggesting you can't afford a puppy, just that you need to get your budget in line first.

You need to save longer. For one thing yorkie pups are more than $$400. Then you need to take the puppy imediately to the vet and your going to have to pay for a shot package and that will be at least $200.

no i understand were u are coming from the only reason why i said 400 is because i thought 1,000 plus for a dog was way to much but as i begin to do my research and the more i read post entries on yt i now see why u have to pay so much for a yorkie because good breeders put there heart and soul in this and now i would not mind paying that much for a pup because a good breeder put way more money in this then what i am actually paying for and i respect all of them well the good ones anyway for all the sleepless night they may go threw just to make sure there dog and the pups are healhty and happy

Great job takign the time to reasearch and furthermore understand what to look for in a good breeder....also verify they do all of what they say and that they are in fact reputable...getting a puppy is such a research requiring purchase! It's no longer as simple (was it ever really though-?) how much is that doggy in the window?
