| ![]() All I can say is...the owner let you know and it looks like the pup is getting good vet care...she could have kept it to herself and never told you... I had a friend whose Yorkie jumped out the car window instead of waiting for her to open the door when they got home...broke both legs, but they healed and she never allowed her in the car unleashed or uncrated... |

No Longer a Member | ![]() Its really easy for little ones to break their fragile bones, I can see how easily it could happen. Maybe she is embarrassed to admit that in the 2 seconds she had eyes off the pup, she jumped off the sofa resulting in the broken leg? or something similar. You know how easily these guys can get themselves into trouble. At least she has sought out vet care and is sending you updates ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() I have a breed that seems particularly susceptible to broken legs, the Italian Greyhound. It is what happens when kamakaze puppies have pencils for legs. There is one thing that concerns me about this story. Splints are not "inserted" into a dog's leg. Pins and plates, but not splints. Splints are rigid supports that go on the outside of the leg and get wrapped up. They get changed. It is advisable to xray the leg as it heals to make sure there are no complications and that it is healing and healing properly. I personally am not comfortable with splints, unless the fracture is a hairline fracture, but it is the cheapest way to have the leg fixed, requiring no surgery. It can also cause complications later in life, but I've had a dog whose legged was pinned and it healed crookedly. As for my dogs, I would only have an orthopedic surgeon handle the repair. I hope you had the owners sign a spay/neuter contract before you sold the puppies.

If she was not honest, would she send you a picture at all? Maybe she jumped from a sofa or bed. I hope that's all it was. But yes, I would go visit, just out of concern. Hope all works out, sorry you are so upset.

| ![]() I think is was probably just an innocent mistake that she said right leg instead of left leg. I agree with Pat in that it looks like the lady is giving good care to the puppy. Accidents can happen so matter how careful we try to be. I have heard many stories of dogs jumping off furniture and breaking legs. Sadly I sold a puppy to someone one time and later that puppy jumped off the back of the couch, broke her neck and died instantly. It was really sad and the owner was devastated. You should just call the lady and talk to her, that's what I would do.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Thanks for the support! She said she jumped off a low beach chair and it was how she landed that caused The broken leg. She said she meant to say Left leg and wasn't trying to lie... I guess she did get somewhat offended she even mentioned the vet bill being $800. Well at least I am more relieved thanks to this and my yt family! I just hope this isn't too much of an undertaking for her, I made sure to ask if she was knowledgeable of the breed before anything else and she assures me she was. I don't want to interfere too much , but I did offer to have future play dates.

Poor baby! You know what as I look at the picture, I really think the other leg is broken, and thats why she covered it up. We all know how small yorkies legs are, and when you look at the picture, how she has the other leg covered up, it looks really "bulkie" Like there is a cast under there!

| ![]() Im sure she feels horrible too! Bevo broke his little leg when he was around 6 months old. He had been cuddling with my hubby on the couch and when I walked in the front door, he got so excited and jumped off the couch. In that split second, he was hurt. Things happen so fast sometimes, its hard to prevent them!! But he tottled around in his cast like it wasnt even there! Im just so glad she got her vet care!

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | ![]() It's a horrible thing to happen to a little pup but sometimes accidents do happen. I think it is a good sign that the owner was honest and told you about it, I bet she was really nervous about telling you. I know when Poppy was small I had her a week or two and when I gave her a bath for the first time I noticed her tail was bent on the end, took her to the vets and he confirmed it was broken but was an old break and fully healed. I was SO nervous about telling her breeder next time I saw her because I didnt want anyone to think I was a bad owner and hurting my dogs because I would NEVER do that. (The vet said it was probably done while she was being born or not long after). But it is good that the owner of your pup is making sure the little one has proper vet care, hoping she has a speedy recovery!
