| How much will my Yorkie weigh? I have a Yorkie that 3.6lb at 8 weeks. I want an estimate of what you think he will weigh. The breeder told me he weighted 1.6lb at 6 weeks and 5 days and he turns eight weeks today and is 3.6lb is that to much weight gain. I thought maybe reducing his amount of food and a lot of exercise. Playing with my 5lb Pomeranian may reduce his weigh. I was hoping for him to be at 7-8lb like his father. |

| Pups grow very quickly and they need food for proper development. Reducing food will not make for a smaller Yorkie; it will make for a malnourished one. Predicting ultimate size is difficult. Best guess is to double the weight at 12 weeks.

| Im not sure how much the breeder feeds him and I also know he is given karosyrup daily. Could be cause of weight gain? I will be feeding him 1/2 cup daily. I will receive him tomorrow. |

| The charts (which on are the sticky notes) say triple the 8 week weight. I would be very careful about putting a pup this young on a diet. I would research how much he should eat and stick with that amount. Poor nutrition could lead to many health issues. I understand we all have an "idea" of the size we want.. but we all fall in love with our pups and it doen't seam to matter after awhile. I am sure that will be your case!!! At first I was worried my Remy would be too small, then I worried she was going to be too fat.. I guess I just like to worry!!!

The best way to prevent hypoglycemia is to make sure the pup eats and rests regularly. Daily food servings depend on which brand of food is fed. Pups grow very rapidly at that age.

| Hi, I just don't know if the breeder let him free eat and karosyrup could be the problem. I feed my pom a brand called Acana. I think the food great. According to the bag I suppose to feed him 3/4 cups daily due to the food deliver in large bites. I would love him anyway if he is bigger than I expected. |

| I also think the karosyrup daily is unnecessarily. I never gave my pom karosyrup and she turn out healthy and appropriate weight. I told the yorkie dad is 7lbs and his mom is 12lb but his mom also free fed and still given karosyrup from time and time. The breeder call the mom a fatty because she eats alot and deliver alot of litters. However, the dad isnt free fed. |

| Though I think they can surprise you, I'd guess the pup is going to take after his mom and be at least 9-10 pounds. I met someone who has a 14 # female who consistently throws pups that end up around 5/6 pounds as adults. Go figure.

Half a cup for a pup a little over 3 pounds should be enough. The size of the parents can help determine ultimate size of your pup, but it doesn't tell the whole story. You have to have a lot of background info about previous generations and even then, the best breeders will tell you that you can only make an educated guess about adult size.

| I agree that 1/2 cup is enough. He may just slim down with alot of excercise. He does come from a breeder whom have several dogs so I'm sure she doesnt walk them and let them roam around the house as needed |

| Why are you convinced he is fat or needs to slim down? When you take him for his wellness check with the vet, ask the vet if he/she thinks your pup is overweight.

| I do not think he's fat however I was told he was chubby for his age by several people. I was concern that maybe he was to big for his age. He looks fine to me. Last edited by PupsMom; 02-28-2011 at 09:56 AM. |

| I agree. Weight alone does not determine if the puppy is overweight. He could have a larger frame.

Have your vet assess his weight at the wellness check.
