| ![]() When a dog is microchipped , is it usually placed in the ear? Or the back leg? My vet charges $30 for it to be done.

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Just installing a Microchip in your Animal is not enough, one must register the Number in a Database, or... Go to a Site which your Vet may have entered your Animal's Microchip Number in. Type in the Number, and see if it comes up. if not then you might consider registering it with that Site. The following list of Sites is only a few of what's out there ! ID Microchip/Registry: 1: USA Microchip: http://registermicrochip.com/ 2: HomeAgain: http://public.homeagain.com/ 3: American Kennel Club: http://www.akccar.org/ 4: Microchip Express: http://www.microchipexpress.com/mcxscripts/owner.pl 5: United All Breed Regis: http://www.unitedregistry.com/ 6: United Kennel Club: http://www.ukcdogs.com/WebSite.nsf/WebPages/Home 7: Canadian Kennel Club: http://www.ckc.ca/en/Default.aspx?tabid=93 8: 24PetWatch: http://www.24petwatch.com/index.aspx 9: PetLink: http://www.petlink.net/

| ![]() Can't one have a painful microchip removed if it is a problem? I would rather my dog live in comfort and take extra, extra precautions to keep it in my constant sight than have it live with a sore spot. Tibbe is chipped but I am pretty sure it would have to go if it hurt him. |

| ![]() Is there really such a thing as a painful microchip? Seems a myth thus far... Removing one would be quite some feet... True Story... At the pound a dog came in (stray got out the yard) and actually had two microchips! 1 registered to a breeder and 1 to a private party... Apparently the dog had been chipped, and the dog was re-chipped with a second chip by the new owner at the vets...the remedy because removing is almost all but unheard of was to have both chips updated to the correct owner... So this tiny tiny I mean tiny dog like 2 lbs had two chips..not a single issue...the chips were even next to each other... I'm still considering tattooing on top of chips also... Quote:

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() A chip definitely can be removed, same as a standard surgical operation. However, given how small those little things are, the injection/needle is a LOT more traumatic than the chip. As long as it's "professionally" installed I seriously doubt if there will be any problem with it. And, from what I read, any that have quit working for some reson, are not removed. A new one is installed near the same spot.

| ![]() Two of my dogs have 2 microchips. We had to go to the UK and they used a different frequency. It was a condition of entry. My smallest girl with two chips is 5 pounds. They've been in for 2 years now without any issues. I can't feel it on her back and she doesn't ever act like she an feel it. |

| ![]() That's so true American registries are just starting to use the ISO frequency chips not to avoid people having to do this! Seems someone would have thought of that prior! What registry did you use over there? Are you now on the ICA or another world wide (well hmmmmm multi continent) service? Quote:
