| Flea season! I have 2 dogs, and my older dog Neenah, uses comfortis for fleas and it works magnificently. But Hercules is too young for any kind of flea med. I was told that baby powder is good for fleas and won't hurt him. I just want to know if there are any other home remedies that may work? I have only seen a couple fleas on him and I already bought a flea comb which has become part of our everyday grooming ritual. But any info will help. Thanks

| Please, please, please don't mention fleas. We have the worst problem on our land and I have tried everything. My vet won't let me put anything on my little girl either. As for her Momma I have tried everything to no avail! I have her on Frontline now(but who cares the fleas and ticks here love it!!) Concretegurl recommended rubbing down with apple cider vinegar...hold on let me find it...OK here it is.... Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar - The Top 6 Hope this helps.... |

No Longer a Member | This is what I'm trying out now: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ea-treats.html I would think rather than baby powder try the d/earth FOOD GRADE. Sorry for the all caps, but there is a d/earth made for cleaning swimming pools and you def. don't want that on your pet. Good luck this flea season...I'm trying to make it out as un-bitten as possible |

| Bath him with dawn dishsoap and leave it on 5 mins before rinsing. It wont keep new fleas from getting on him but will kill the ones on him

Also, what are the signs of a pup with fleas...Oliver's been itching more than usual near his ear but he was just taken to the vet for neutering a few days ago and she never mentioned anything. Thanks

| I just think some flea meds are effective for some animals while others are not. I have read posts on here where someone said their pet got fleas while on advantage. I have used that flea preventative for 6 yr on yorkies and cats and its always worked for me. I do believe someone else though when they say it didnt work for them

The itching at the base of the tail is usually a sign that they have fleas. Place Oliver over a moist paper towel and give him a good scratching, if any black dirt comes off of him, it'll hit the paper towel and "melt" into blood. That is flea dirt and means you have some de-fleaing of pet/house/car (if he takes frequent trips)/and outside of your house to do. Fleas are a total nightmare! I hate them all! It seems that certain parts of the country/world the fleas are more resilient than others. If frontline doesn't work for you I'd check with your vet to see what else he recommends. | I've used Frontline for years. My pek is 13 and has never had a flea. My vet told me that he wouldn't put it on a small yorkie like Ally though. I've been putting a tiny drop on her and Tia and no fleas so far. Now, I don't know what my neighbor uses, but her baby gets fleas. Her problem is the squirrels though. She has big oak trees and the squirrels just love them. She used to put a feeder out so our babies could watch them. You know how much a yorkie loves to chase a squirrel!!! lol Well, she had to have a pest control company come several times to treat for fleas. He said the squirrels are bringing them! |
