| How long should I leave puppy on pee pad? When I catch my puppy starting to pee on the carpet, I take him straight to his pee pad. Even of he has only made a tiny drop on the carpet, he does not finish on the pee pad. How long do I keep him on the pad if he doesn't finish right away? A few minutes, or wait as long as it takes? How long is too long? HELP!! Any additional house training info will be appreciated! Puppy is almost 10 weeks. |

| As young as he is, I would suggest putting him in an x-pen with a pad at one end and his bed, food, water, toys at the other end. If you don't have a tiled floor to put this on, use something like a vinyl shower curtain to line the bottom first. When you're not playing or interacting with him, he should be in the x-pen. He's too young to be running around and this will give him a greater chance of success, as well as keep him safe. Maybe some others will have some other ideas to help you. Let us know how it goes.

| When we rescued Oliver before Christmas he was only 6 weeks old. We were very lucky with Oliver because he was almost pee pad trained when we found him, hard to believe right? However with Zoe our little Shorkie we had a real hard time with the pee pad until we confined her to a pen with a pee pad. After awhile she got the idea. You can't let a small puppy free roam. They have to be confined to a small area. Zach our Yorkie has been very hard to train. When we put him in a pen with a pee pad, he ate it or ripped it to shreads. Now he is trained to go outside wihich is good and bad because on a nasty day he still will not use the pee pad and he will pee and poop in the house. Zoe will burst a kidney before she goes in the house. Oliver is still too young to go out but he is 99% pee pad trained. |
