Default Need a fix to secure window screens

What does everyone do to secure their window screens so their babies don't fall out? It is supposed to be 85 degrees today (sorry those up north with snow) and I have all my windows open. My babies love to look out the windows at squirrels. I've kept the windows I've got steps to closed, except for about an inch. Does anybody have a fix to secure them and not block the view?

I have to secure my screens, too! My boys tend to get excited and scratch on them if they see a bird or cat or something. I just put my baby gate (the adjustable kind) and bring the window down to secure. This works wonders and don't have to worry if my little ones are going thru the screens.

Sorry, we Floridians will save you a seat in the sand!

I'm not sure about the baby gate thing. I would like to secure several windows.

BYorkie,

Tough question, given that one would want it/them to look good,
but not cost an arm/leg.

The simplest thing I can come up with, is what is called Hardware Cloth.
This is a "heavier" wire Screen, and I'm thinking the 1/2" spacing may do.

It comes in various widths (24/36/48") buy as many linear feet as needed in a roll, and cut pieces out to fit your windows. Just setting them on the
inside of your existing screens will probably work, but, you could come up with some attachment to your Screens if you want. I'm thinking a small
screws and washers, in four places to hold it in place.

One final treatment would be to spray the Inserts a Flat Black.
That would make them very hard to see behind your existing
screens from the outside.

Nothing you can do, to fix the screens, but you could keep whatever they are sitting on to look out, far enough from the windows that they can't fall out but can still see out.

I bought these adjustable framed screens that you put in the windows. They came in 2 widths. I put them in the window frame and they provide extra protection. They do need to be removed to close the windows. I think I got them at Home Depot.

I guess I'll make a trip to Home Depot and/or Lowes to see what they have this week. I'll let you know what I come up with so others can use it if needed. I want something simple, that won't block the view, doesn't look like I'm in jail, or have to do a lot of stuff to close my windows. I have a two story home, although the girls only look out the first story windows. I never leave them open when I leave the house...or if it's too hot...which is coming soon! Thanks for some good advice! It's getting hot and the squirrels are multiplying = very excited/anxious yorkies!

What about sheets of plexiglass? You could have them cut to size and then secure them to the frames with velcro.

Okay, I think I'm on to something. Watch this video. The clips hold the top of the screen in place, but I could use them on the bottom. I saw some on line and I'm sure they have them at Home Depot or Lowes. I knew there has to be something out there. How do the cats not fall out the windows while perched up there? That is what Ally does; she perches...waiting for her prey!!!

I have those clips on mine. They aren't especially sturdy. It doesn't take much to pop them out. A bigger problem to worry about is the dog going through the actual screen since it's held in place just by a thin rubber gasket.

I'm almost ashamed to admit...for the second story living room window (in the office) well I used an old wooden baby gate...i could take it down when the window was closed and put it up when the window was open...it didn't exactly match our decor but it worked and very cheaply!

Might try that , if you are like me you are on a budget and have to plan renovation and some items like this before going out and buying them) of course I had a baby gate handy, we used to keep dogs in or out the office area at times and was given the older wooden one by a neighbor who had it from her grand-kids and no longer needed it after she saw I'd moved mine to the window...

I'm still saving for one of the new dog door sliders that has the door in the slider itself...

If I had to do it again...or didn't luck out with baby gates fitting...

Might be worth someone here getting creative and going the hardware store buying some wooden dowels and custom fitting into a window insert...

Or gettign a "stretch" or "accordian" or "adjustable" baby gate to stretch across-they come in multiple colors and designs might match decor better...they are also more durable than the window screen clips as with these the "screen" sections is well toddler proof! Plus the are somewhat more discreet being a solid bar on one side self enclosing and just a latch on the other side-totally hidden by curtains on both sides. I didn't care as much as it was on the window that faced the back yard...

Default securing screen windows so yorkie doesnt fall out

Today is beautiful first day of December in Florida. I decided to open up my windows. But as my little yorkie loves to sit on the window sill, to see the acitvity out there..... this is too dangerous as the screen can be pushed out. Yikes. its not secure! Upon doing a goggle search for catproofing my window screen ..yorkieforum popped up! From my research so far looks like I have to invent a device.

Lets all brainstorm ideas. I cant be the only one with this problem.

If they made a babygate that was just 12- 15" high would be perfect. At my front iron courtyard gate, which Bailey can fit thru, I wedge across a strip of white plastic lattice (from home depot) just about 12' high. Its a bit flexible so just needs to be cut to appox. size.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
