Bailey is fixed and is sporting the Lampshade Look!!

My baby just got neutered. I cried dropping him off and almost cried again when I saw the little cone on his head. He has to keep it on for a week. We actually have to return to the vet in a week as well.. Bailey knocked his food bowl over with his cone.. I hand fed him and sprinkled some on a blanket.

Are there any tips or advice you guys suggest for my poor baby with the lampshade? he looks so sad.

I didn't keep a cone on mine when he was neutered- the incision was so small that he didn't bother with it- I kept a baby onsie on him the first few days to make sure he didn't lick it and after that he never touched it. I think if he is eating or laying with you its fine to take it off as long as you are watching him.

the cone seems like it's strapped on a makeshift collar.. I guess it gives him better movement. It seems a little difficult to remove and put back on.. :/ a onsie? Hmmm.. I never used one.

I didn't have a cone with either of my boys. Luckily they weren't interested in licking the incision. I thought the cone was only if you noticed them licking?

Generally speaking, the incision is soooo small, so the onsie works well, your baby won't like it but it's so much better than the cone head!! At least that's what we did with Sprocket and do when ever he has an spot that has to be watched. Sprocket is 10lbs, so I bought a 12-18mos onsie at the 1$$ store, tried it on him for fit, then cut the hole for the tail and for the chest used a great big safety pin to close up the chest, I can't see small pins and dogs wiggle . Works well, dog is NOT HAPPY, but he's not happy any way, at least he can eat and when he has to go out to do his business, you just un snap and pin up and TA DA. I mean you have to watch him anyway. Besides it's easier to snuggle with a onsie than a conehead. Hope your baby or rather you feel better soon.

Yes my boys also didn't need the cone. They left the stitches alone. Just get a human baby onsie and put it on him, make a little hole for the tail... hehe I just used it at night when I couldn't watch them closely. During the day I watched to make sure they didn't try to lick there. A week seems like torture for that poor baby!!

I would LOVE to see a onesie on my Bailey.. But how does he...well pee? Or poop? When he needs to go, he'll walk to his pee pad. Sorry I feel dumb..

You could get one of the blow up collars that work the same as a cone. It's much more comfortable. You can also deflate it and use it over and over. I use mine all the time to keep my two still when I do their topknots.

My Riley & Bailey were born the same day!! I had Riley neutered in November.
I bought a onsie, but only used it at night when I couldn't keep an eye on him..... I didn't have to do the e-collar or onsie during the day.... It was the hardest thing though trying to keep him from running and jumping....and he was up and going the next day.

Bo makes the best soft cone collars. They are the Best! Soft enough so that they can maeuver around easily. You can also fold it down a little.

I would recommend getting the onsie or seeing if Mom to Hot Rod can get a Kiss E collar to you quickly. I have a kiss e collar on hand just in case. Those cones are so uncomfortable and scary for them. I hope he heals quickly.

Ask Bo. She's done so in the past for a friend of mine. PM her. I love my softee cone. I've used it a few times when I needed to put neosporin on Kaji. He cuts himself sometimes when he panicks. He doesn't bother with boo boo and it's more comfortable than the other options. And, since your baby uses piddle pads, it'll be easier on both of you. I personally used a onesie on Kaji. At the time, he was only piddling outside, which made it really easy. When it was time for a potty break, I carried him outside and let him handle his business. Back inside, the onesie went right back on.

Well what do you know. Same birthday and neuter day for our BOYS.. LOL

Austin is doing well so far. I ordered him a matching harness to go with his e collar from Mom to Hot Rod. She did an awesome job. When Austin's procedure was done, they put the plastic cone and his e collar ontop. I didn't think I was going to feel heavy hearted when I dropped off Austin but I did. I love him so much, I was so relieved after I dropped him off because his vet was there waiting for him, and full of smiles. So it made me feel better. He also did get with the blood work. He passed with flying colors. Thank god no cholesterol check..lol jk!

Don't worry. They told me to give Austin the amoxi twice a day and when go does peepee to wipe him clean with the baby wipes. She also told me to make sure he doesn't go up stairs or jump like a monkey, cause that's how he is..lol

And lastly use neosprin on it. Supposedly he will heal sooner than later. I'm taking him for his post surgery checkup this weekend. Bailey will be fine. Just keep an eye out for him and have food ready. They seem to have a bigger appetite.
