![]() Have the syringe, but I've put down goats milk and karo syrup (which I should have remembered - first Yorkie had diabetes in old age). I've got lots of pee pads, and more on the way thanks to Mom. Have the collar and bell. Lots you covered! Thanks!!!

| ![]() Damn You Auto Correct! ![]() I've got a bunch, but it's never enough! She's got a couple of chewie things, puppy things, and also a DRAGON (doesn’t breathe fire, but cries jelly bean tears), a HIPPO, an OCTOPUS, and a pig. And a "ropewith a knot in it" courtesy of the boyfriend. "It's from Martha Stewart."

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() More on the boiled chicken... Before you pick up the puppy, I'd suggest you get one or two chicken breasts, poach them gently in plain water - no salt, no onion, nothing else. If you boil them too fast, they will get tough and harder for your puppy to chew. Once cooked until the meat is falling off the bone, shred the chicken into tiny pieces and freeze it in baggies - a couple of tablespoons per baggie. That way you can pull out what you need for just a serving or two. Strain the broth and freeze it in ice cube trays. When you need to use the chicken, cook a little bit of plain white rice, using the broth to replace all or part of the water -- this makes the rice a lot more tempting to the dog. Don't use salt or butter. Then mix the rice and chicken and give to the puppy a little bit warm. This doesn't take the place of a balanced dog food, but is a good temporary substitute when the puppy is picky or has an upset tummy. Be cautious about giving the Nutrical. It's like giving a kid a candy bar -- highly palatable but not terribly nutritious and could spoil the kid's appetite. But if you have a puppy that's crashing it could absolutely be a lifesaver. Also, find out from your breeder what food she's feeding the dog. She should actually send you home with a small supply of food, but if she doesn't, make sure you have the same food on hand. Even if it's not high quality food, you don't want to change it too early -- it could cause digestive distress. Any change in food needs to be done gradually unless there is a medical reason it needs to be changed immediately. Please, please consult with your vet about all this, and ask lots of questions. I got Tallulah at the recommended age, and although the vet said she was in great shape for her age, she was so delicate I was terrified for a few weeks. I can't imagine getting a much younger puppy. I'm not blaming you for taking her so soon -- but the breeder should be soundly thrashed IMHO. Once you get her, keep an eagle eye on her, and don't be afraid to call the vet if there's any change in her behavior. Also, please read up on vaccinations -- some vets like to give multiple vaccines at once, which is generally not recommended for these little ones. I hope your new puppy will have a long and happy life with you. Please post pics and keep us posted on how she's doing. |

I appreciate the advice and the details about cooking the chicken - I know about using rice, but it's a great idea to save the broth. I'll definitely be reading up on the Nutrical to make sure I'm not using it improperly. And aside from the age thing, the breeder has been wonderful - Noli will be coming with a bag of food. I'm prepared for a gradual transition. I've got an appointment with the vet and the vet assistant has walked me through the plan - they don't do multiple vaccinations.
