| Fish oil/ Salmon Oil/ Omega 3,6,9 supplements Hi everyone! I took Gizmo to the vet to schedule his neuter and we are going to start him on a fish oil supplement because he has dry skin and dandruff. However, my vet didn't have any on hand for me to purchase. I went to petco today but i am having a hard time finding something that i can give him since hes soo small. I don't want to give him too much. I liked how petco had one that was salmon oil and it was a pump. However, Gizmo is 3.4 pounds and most of the ones im finding are for dogs starting at 10 to 15 pounds. Does anyone give their yorkie fish oil? If so can you recommend one and how much do you put in their food each day? Christina & Gizmo |

| See if you can find the "Noah's Ark" brand....that one is great and has different dosages. Although, for the other brands, I think you can just drizzle a little over the food if his weight isn't listed. Are you doing this for the coat or just because it seems like he'd benefit from fish oil?

| The vet recommended it because Gizmo's skin is really dry and flaky. The groomer i take him too also recommended it. Is it true that fish oil depletes a dogs vitamin e? do i have to worry about this or do fish oil pills account for this and add it in? |

| I just started giving my girl Yummy Chummies Wild Alaskan Salmon oil because her hair was getting dry. The directions say to give 1 pump for a dog up to 25 pounds. I give her about a half a pump on her food in the morning and she really enjoys it. The luster is already coming back after only 10 days. I don't think fish oil is anything that will hurt your Gizmo but maybe you should just try measuring out 1/4 teaspoon and put it on his food, and see how he does with it. I take fish oil all the time and I also give it to my kids, it is good stuff (not the taste). The ingredients in the Yummy Chummies is: Wild Alaskan Salmon oil preserved with mixed tocopherols(which is actually Vitamin E) and rosemary extract. Hope this helps. Good luck with little Gizmo! |

| Nordic Naturals Omega 3 for Pets ...but is the vet sure there isn't something causing the dry skin? Maybe just the weather? Omega 3 is definitely worth a try.

| Hinckley has sores on her back that basically follow her spine. We have stopped putting the advantix on her thinking it was irritating her but it hasn't gone away. Will the fish oil help this too?

| it may.. but it seams an odd location... or pattern. Do you have a harness or clothes that follow that pattern? I would check with vet to be honest

| She doesn't wear clothes or a harness....nothing. I told the vet the last time we were in there for one of the dogs and she said to try skipping the advantix and that was 3 months ago....but it hasn't changed anything. She had an oatmeal bath last night, maybe she needs one more often. I wish there was something I could put on her. She likes to rub on the fireplace hearth but I'm not sure if that's bc she has the sores or if that started the sores. :/

| Snickers gets Fish Oil daily on his food. I bought it at Walgreens, it's the normal kind you find in the vitamin/supplement area. I bought the non-smelly kind as the regular type makes his beard smell fishy and gives him gas!!!!! I pierce the tablet and put droplets on his food, the pump sounds much easier though....will have to look into that!! Viv

| The vet who was treating my dog with lymphoma prescribed fish oil for her. His only specification as to the type of fish oil was that the DHA and EPA in it added up to 600 or more. I've always used Nature Made for people. I just drop one of them in Lizzy's food every other day or so. DHA, btw, is what a lot of the puppy foods now have added to help with brain development.
