| New to YT awaiting anxiously for my new family addition. I am new here on YorkieTalk. I have ready many threads before actually signing up. You all seem to be very informative and knowledgable. I am getting my very first yorkie soon and am so excited I can't stand it. I have always wanted a yorkie and now finally (at the ripe old age of 40..lol) I am able to get one. I have done much research and I think that this community will be of great help for a newbie. I want the best for my new little Sophie when she is finally ready to come home. I am amazed with all of the products and brands out there, it gets so confusing trying to decipher through it all and know what is actually good products to trust on your new family member...ie food, grooming, training, crates and pens, etc. If anyone has any good advice for me, I am open for suggestions. Thank You all for letting me be part of your wonderful community! Dee-Dee |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations. As far as food you will want to see what the breeder has been feeding her and if it is not a premium food gradually switch her to one. I would make sure you read up on hypoglycemia and have a vet and er vet lined up, just in case. Some people use x-pens, some use crates and some use playpens or set up a small room for them to stay in. It just depends on how you want to have it set up. I used a play pen when they were real young and that worked out for me. I put their bedding at one end and a pee pad at the other. If you are training to go outside you will want to start that right away. Until mine were potty trained I used blankets/bedding that was easily washed so if they had an accident I could easily wash it. When do you get to bring Sophie home? It is so exciting to bring a new baby home!! Can't wait to see pictures. You will get a lot of great advise here.

| Thank you. We do already have a vet, he tends to all my other animals. He is really good. I think she is going to give them science diet. I will be using a crate and probably get an xpen big enough to set the crate and all her belongings in. I get to bring Sophie home on the 25th. I am going baby shopping for her sometime next week. I am so excited! My husband is getting one also, he gets to bring his home before Sophie. His puppy will get to come home on the 18th. |

| Welcome and congrats on Sophie! How exciting! I've learned patience is key to potty training, especially Yorkies. I've had other breeds that learned in a snap, but not my Yorkie . I use crate training, but it all depends on the dogs. Some do better in x-pen's, etc. good luck!

| congrats on your new upcoming addition...a week after having her I will wait for you to post...this dog so owns me they tend to wiggle their way into our hearts like no other. When my sister got her maltese and was concerned about puppy safety and had carpeting everywhere. She got an xpen and then under it my brother in law went to the home improvement store and put a sheet of vinyl flooring to put under it. since she will grow it will be very very hard to resist all the cute sweaters and such but waiting until you know about how big she'll stay ..will save you a lot...lol my binky was pretty easy to potty pad train since I carried her everywhere and when i Put her down I put her on the pad. It started off the weirdest way I'd have to put her down to use the facilities myself and she'd piddle..so it became a habit to put a pad down then put her on it and she'd go when I did....I'd make a huge fuss and give a bit of treat. she caught on pretty quickly My daughters pom actually adopted my system my daughter thought was nuts but she went on my floor all the time and she left her in my care one weekend. when she did it ...in a very soft voice I told her she broke my heart making on grandmas floor...pretended to cry and to this day that little pom runs into my house the first thing she does is use the potty pad and ask for a treat.. |

| WELCOME and Congrats on your upcoming arrival. You will love it here. The wonderful, knowledgebable people on here are totally amazing. Zhoie is 2yrs and she is my first yorkie too and I must warn you, Sophie will soon become the light of your life. Did I read it correctly, your husband is getting a puppy to? Is it a yorkie baby?

| Thank all of you for the welcome. Yes, hubby is getting a yorkie also. He said he is gonna name his pickle... I am so glad I have found this community to share in my joy with my new Sophie. I will post pics as soon as I can. Trust me, I am just as excited to share her with you as you are. Even though she can't come home until the 25th, I do get to go visit her. I soak up as much of her as possible on my visits. I already love her! The first time I held her she snuggled up to my neck. I have only been more excited when my children were born. Now that they are grown, I will have a new baby to love. The best thing is this one will stay my baby and hopefully not be near as mouthy.....lol. I am taking in all of your good advice and taking notes. Keep em coming and I will keep you updated. Again, thanks for the warm welcome and for sharing in my joy. |

| Hello and welcome, I'm new too! My furbaby's name is Kody. I'm training to go outside - and so far so good. A few accidents in the house to be expected but overall I'm very pleased. It does take a lot of patience and endurance - they are like new born babies, need constant care around the clock. |

| Hold On To Your Heart, It's About to be Stolen! So happy for you. You will never ever be prepared for the love you will give and receive to your new little furbaby. Bella, (our very first dog, ever) has changed our lives forever! She has trained us very well in so many ways. Potty training was a challenge, and worth every hour we put into it. She is 100% trained now. This took a long time, but love, enthusiasm, treats, and perseverance got us through. The members here will help you all the way! Don't be afraid to ask any question, they really helped me to be an educated Yorkie owner. I learn something every day I visit YT. Can't wait to hear about your first week and see pictures! We love to see pictures. Did I mention you need to post pictures? Congratulations! |

| I thought about naming her Bella, but my youngest daughter would absolutely kill me. She says she is going to name my grandbaby girl Bella if I am ever graced by such. LOL. I took a couple pics on our last visit, I will try to post some this evening when I get home. It is going to be extremely hard not to spoil these babies too much. But I also want them to be well trained babies. My mom bought me a new sewing machine for my birthday last month so I think my first project will be to try and make some blankies for Sophie and Pickles. Wish me luck. |
