| Indoor training toilet dimensions... So I've been working to perfect Harley's indoor toilet system. We use a grid. Which I must admit he's doing pretty good with. he only has pee mistakes when I leave him with extra blankets... so my problem has been that he's not hitting the same spot with poos. So someone told me that maybe having two trays may resolve the problem, because not all dogs like to pee and poo in the same spot. So I got another one and placed it in my livingroom. He's been much more consistent, but still makes poo mistakes when he's alone in his room while we're at work (and doesn't have access to the livingroom tray). So I renovated, and moved around his room, and now I have space for two trays in one room. I'm debating what to do with the spot in the livingroom where there used to be a tray. I was considering getting a tiny cat litter box and putting a grid in there, we always trip over the one in the livingroom and if he actually poos right with two trays in his room, I just don't want him to pee in the livingroom thinking well that's where the tray used to be. Ok I'm rambling.... the point being, he only pees on the livingroom tray, do you think a small cat litter box would be too small for a barely 4lb yorkie to pee (he's not a leg lifter yet...). I just don't want to go through the hassle making the mats to go in, if he isn't going to use it. Maybe if I put a pee pad in the box first... thoughts? Thanks -Kendra

| A cat tray might be good. They also make doggie trays, my cousin had one for their dog. They come in all sizes. You can put a pee pad in it and the sides of the tray are a few inches tall. I think Amazon has them. Good luck! |

| I use the sterilite totes from Wal-Marts. They are much cheaper than a cat pan or a dog litter box. I use the 32 liter it is short enough they can jump over inside of it. The advantage is there the sides this keeps them from walking off the "tray" when they go poo. I just place a puppy pad in the bottom of it. |

| After reading your previous posts about making your own potty trays I decided to try as well to see if Ziva would use it before investing in one. (Ziva "goes" outside, except after dark, or rainy days or, well if my DH is being lazy!)then she goes on newspaper in the garage, which again my DH loves seeing me clean up, rather then letting Ziva outside...So I tried the grid but she would not step up on it so I took a cover to a plastic storage tote and popped the newspaper inside- perfect! no more leaks on the floor and just enough "bulge" to the center that a big puddle will run off to the edges and her feet don't get wet. I know with the grid I wouldn't have this problem- but not willing to mess with what works.Anyway before Ziva(aka Pee Puddle) was outside trained we had two potty spots in the house. We had to cut to one and than cold turkey to none. I cleaned the floor with commercial floor cleaner (scrubbing the tile grout)Enzyme treated and than blocked off with a large tote. Then watched her closely when she went near and redirected her to the remaining pad (ultimately outside)She was a full year before she could make it to the other side of the house reliably. |
