| Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I'm so sorry your little one got hurt. They are so easy to step on because they want to be underfoot. I'm glad you got a second opinion from the Ortho. It's hard keeping them confined, but like AllDogBoots said, it is essential to keep them from re-injuring themselves.

| Hi Welcome to YT. Sorry to hear about Nina but she's gonna be fine. These little guys are so delecate and sometimes as much as you take care of them things happen. Zach jumped out of his pen and almost broke his nose. He jumped out of the sink one day and I was lucky nothing broke but awhile back, I had a beagle who got hit by a car when she ran out and had to be in a cast for almost 3 months. When you have a pet there is probably gonna be a mishap one day. |

| Many years ago I had a shar-pei mix pup that broke his foot. The vet put a splint on it and the pup did just fine. It healed beautifully. I pray your little girl makes a speedy recovery.

They said she'd limp for 3 1/2 - 4 weeks (mostly cuz she was a puppy and once she discovered it hurt, she'd over baby it) and to keep her contained...only out for potty and eating. So we held her nearly all the time (thank goodness she liked that and would sit still) or kept her in her crate. She hated that and I felt so bad as all the other pups were out playing and she wasn't getting that socialization. It seemed to get worse, to the point she held it up all the time and being so tiny the pups would knock her down when they were all eating, etc. So one day (3 1/2 weeks later) I let her out to eat/potty and she took off thundering down the hall with all the pups, rough housing. I thought well, it's only getting worse and at this point, she needs it to play and it can't be any worse that it is. So what happened? She never limped again. It was like the containment helped, but she needed to work it and discover it was ok to use it. So ironically, the vet was right nearly to the day. I was so worried she'd never get better. The original plan was to sell her as she's such a beauty and though I had vet records saying there was nothing permanently wrong with her I thought there must be so I got so attached to her I can't sell her now! Anyway, my real point is yours will hate being confined but if you or someone else is available to hold her as much as possible it'll help her. Maybe sit on the bed let her rest beside you as often as possible and when not possible contain her in the end it didn't do any 'psychological' damage (other than she won't sleep in a crate at night so we use the xpen for her) and make sure they've checked her growth plate - that's important. We also had pain pills for her so I think that helped make her a little sleepy and more likely to rest. Good luck.
