This is why home visits and very thorough interviews are SO necessary. People can be wonderful...but just not be the right home for a pup. Might want to share that with whoever is in charge of handling adoptions. I hate to see pups going through so many changes. ![]()

I have nothing to do with the vetting process. I know LDR doesn't have someone in every county, and often the people adopting are not local. The lady who adopted Reno came from the other coast of Florida - was a 4 hour trip for her, so I am sure no-one did a home visit there. The couple that took Fritz were from the next county south of me, so about 2 hours from any LDR representatives. I agree with you that home visits would be ideal. I know they did thoroughly interview this couple, but being in Florida stairs would probably have not crossed anyones mind. Most houses are single story and don't have stairs.

| ![]() Well, after years of doing this, I can tell you that these questions should be asked. I hope that maybe the person doing the applications has learned from this one. A sight impaired pup should have a list of questions that should be asked regarding how they plan to help him learn his new environment and get around.....actually, any pup should have that! Maybe you can tactfully suggest to them that they make a list of things that are special for each pup and make sure they ask pertinent questions. A group that adopts out of the area should have a way of having a home visit completed. Rescuers often network to get them done. We adopt out of state...there is always a way to get a home visit done. I don't believe that home visits are ideal....I believe that they are a must!

| ![]() I'm already making a list of suggestions. And you can bet when there is another application for a dog I am fostering I will do some checking myself. With this one I have a notary friend in that area I bet she would have made a visit for me. She is someone who loves dogs and I would have trusted her to make sure it was a good place for Fritz.
