| Arched Back Anyone's Yorkie ever start arching it's back? Over some time now ours is doing just that. No pain, just an arch. Assuming something is wrong we are having xrays and blood work done. Any input would be great. Last edited by caligrape; 01-28-2011 at 01:28 PM. |

| My Yorkie is 7 years. I am hearing Roach back would have appeared sooner and that he is too young for arthritis. I am a little freaked out because the arch has came on so slow that we haven't really done much. Also no pain, so we have just been watching him. Now I feel like either way I need to know what is going on. I have heard maybe a stomach condition could make a dog have arched back (although he would be throwing up and/or have loose stool. None of this is happening. I have also heard now though that it may be in his organs shifting everything?? |

| Sometimes dogs with pancreatitis or a spine injury will arch their backs, mine does it when his anal glands are too full.

| Be sure to check the hips as well. Mylee has hip dispasia and the arched back was one of the first things we noticed different about her, long before she started showing pain. How old is your baby?

OP: I would definitely have your dog check out by your vet.

| My first Yorkie had a very pronounced arch; his spine used to stick out in the middle in an arch. He was perfectly healthy with that condition. Its hard to get a purebread Yorkie that is 100% physically perfect as it grows into adulthood, but most issues are minor and dont requre any intervention. At least that is my personal experience. Good luck. |

| My 9 month old yorkie also has a arched back, i always thought it was normal ( the arch is not too big) i first noticed it when she was only 5 months, i already took her 3 different vets n they all said that she is healthy n that is just the way her spine was developed, She doesnt seem to be in pain or anything... Hopefully all those vets r right!! |

I hope the results of the xrays and blood work show it is not serious. This is something new to me, and I hope you keep us imformed.

| I have been noticing Jax having an arched back too. No pain, eating same as always, playful.....poop has been small and hard lately but the last couple of days have been normal. Glad to read all the good reports that it may be nothing. He was neutered a few days ago and my vet said nothing about his back. All labs were normal too. Let me know if you guys find out anything about your babies please!
