| anesthesia question What is the safer anasthesia for tinies, Sevoflurane or Isoflurane. Anyone have any experine with either anasthesia? I believe I read and was told Sevo was the best. My vet uses Sevo but the vet I was thinking about taking Mia to for a second opinion uses Isoflurane. Thanks for any input. Elaine |

| Sevo is newer. Used more on humans. Lots of people believe it is safer than iso. Both are good drugs. I like iso. Ellie's vet office had sevo for awhile and didn't relaly like it. I'm more comfortable with iso and it is what is used on Ellie. There is probably no one right answer here.

| There are other considerations also. With sevo they can wake up a bit quicker and I have heard it is better for the heart. With iso there is less risk of the temp dropping too low and seems to be preferred at UT for liver shunt repair. So there are goods and bads to both.

Mia was very sick when we got her and the first exam she was diagnosed with upper respiratory and ear infections and he gave her not one but two shots (Distemper and Rabies). She was a few days short of 16 weeks old and only weighed about a pound and a half. As much as I know shots should not be given when a dog is sick, I was just so overwhelmed with just picking her up and finding she was so sick that it didn't click until after the shots were given. It was not our usual vet but still and I was also upset because she had a hernia and they did not do a thourough exam on her so they did not find it so I want to try and find another vet. Sometimes change is good. Thanks again Elaine | |

| Thanks Mary. I wasn't sure. My vet charged a small fortune for Brooklyn's spay $550 and when I asked why so much as compared to other places I was told because Sevo is the best and the most expensive, plus they do laser assit surgery. IDK at this point after everything I'm going to take Mia to another vet for another oppinion on her hernia and she is still under vet care for the cough. A second oppinon on that may be worth while too. I may switch the whole crew if I like the new vet. 15 years is a lot of time with someone, but sometimes change is needed. Elaine |

| I've read too that sevo causes a drop in body temperature... They wake up quickly on Iso... I can't imagine quicker on Sevo! With a tiny I would wait till she's 9 -12 months old to spay her.... to allow her to get as big as possible and of course I'd have her BATs done prior.... but that's JMHO...
