she told me it was b/c she didn't want her dogs to go through the horrors of labor. not kidding.

I totally agree.

How can you claim not to be in it just for the money when you don't keep your dogs for their lifetime? I cannot imagine a dog living in a room of a house or even a couple of rooms and never going for a ride in the car or to the park or whatever like a normal pet does for 4, 5 or 6 years...all their puppyhood and young adulthood. To me, no matter how clean and well fed they are, that is not the life they deserve.

Every yorkie lover who decides to breeds knows that they are risking their dog's life when they make that decision. I could not do it.

I can see someone who may be able to turn off the emotions and not look at them as the loving, innocent creatures they are or someone who is just ignorant and thinks that every animal deserves to breed...but the more I learn about the breeding of small breed toy dogs and the dangers involved, the more I find it hard to conprehend it being okay for anyone's beloved petThis is why I feel a breeder should only have as many dogs as she can hire the proper help to make sure ALL of the dogs in the breeding program have the lives they deserve....they should be walked, played with, socialized and loved physically everyday by a special someone. It will cost more .....sure...which is why I think we should be willing to pay a good breeder more. A male stud deserves to be inside and to go for walks and be loved and held as part of a family, not put in a kennel or confined to a small room or garage 24/7 until he is 7 or 8 or whatever age. That is cruel in my opinion.

I know. When I started looking for a pup I was sooooooo naive. Can't believe what some of these little dogs go through. And the ones I saw were the lucky ones

Wow.. If she didn't want her dog to go through the horrors of labor, perhaps she should have gotten her spaded. I believe the later as well. It's so much more "convient" to have the puppies on a Friday I'm sure. God forbid she miss work or a night of sleep (most dogs have their puppies late at night.)

I agree. I was very naive as well and I am still learning things that make me go "hmmmmmmmm" from about some supposedly reputable breeders. I am not one to bash breeders because I have certainly met and been made aware of more good ones than bad, but for people who supposedly dogs, some of them have a funny way of showing it.

Kim...When people see a breeder who is not breeding for all the good reasons - like to enhance the breed or because they truly LOVE yorkies - it's not 'bashing them' when we have our opinions. You lump the word bashing into one big group -

IN MY OPINION.....everytime you don't agree with other peoples opinions you claim we are bashing someone - No offense - but we are just stating OUR feelings....just like you are ...

Most people think it's WRONG to breed tiny yorkies and sell teacup yorkies....IMO again.... this is not Bashing someone - it's disagreeing with their ETHICS and Breeding Program and everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Also...to add something to my post - I WILL bash puppymills and bad Kennels - and I can say this - Spreading the word when we know that a breeder or Kennel is bad helps the next person who may want to purchase a dog from them....Our opinions are very helpful in some cases - I can say this from personal experience - I've had a great outcome on a certain BAD BAD breeder I've talked about.

We can offer help with a GOOD breeder just as well as a bad breeder - it's all out of LOVE for yorkies that we take the time to post about both

Oh thanks - I wanted to say that because I feel people get labled as bashers when most of the time - we're just seeing something NOT RIGHT and commenting about it - I don't consider it bashing to do this - most of the time it's just common sense, and more often than not - just opinions - which are like a certain body part - we ALL have them

I'm sorry but you cannot speak for vets. Maybe it's by region but from my 3 vets, they do not recommend breeding anything this tiny.

oh boy are you right - Most vets would never encourage someone to breed tiny unless they are looking to have the extra business when the mom and or puppies are in trouble...so I totally agree with you txshopper -

My vet took one look at Chanel when she was about 6 months old and said she was PERFECT for breeding and asked me if I would be interested - his comments were due to her size and body style - if she was too small - he would have been encouraging SPAYING on the spot.
