Parents under 2.5 lbs!?!? What the heck are they trying to do to those poor babies. The pups must be soo small and fragile when they're born. :mad: :( |
That is just aweful. I got my Laila from a breeder who had kept her for show/breeding -but when they realized she would only grow to be around 3 lbs they put her up for adoption. I can't imagine 2.5 lbs breeding. That is so aweful! I was so thankful the breeder I got Laila from was so respectful of the pups and their welbeing. |
Personally, I'd take a puppy scale with me. Some breeders say a lot of things and people that don't know better just take their word for it. |

I called the ad and they were all sold. The lady was very nice. She had two litters with this little momma and she had two "perfect" babies in each litter she said. No open fontenelles or anything. She had her spayed after the second litter. She sais her vet told her that as long as the male is smaller than the female the it is okay to breed that small. She kept one from each litter but she is not sure she is going to breed the little girl she kept because she has too much trouble giving up the pups. She falls in love with them and she says she's too old to keep any more. LOL If I were breeding I would want to make sure there was "no chance of a throw back" from somewhere down the pedigree line but the theriogenologists (reproduction specialists) don't seem to think it is a problem either. |

I had mentioned in another thread that Gracie's smallest puppy was 3 ounces at birth and I remember the length and size of her. I could not imagine something weighing just 2.5 lbs giving birth to a 3 ounce puppy (being it the largest). To me, it's just too risky. It's not like their giving birth to pinkies. These are puppies that are larger than that. |

Just talked to another vet about the breeding of yorkies under 4 lbs. They say that they do A LOT of c-sections not only on tiny yorkies but chihuahuas as well. The vet tech said that there are so many complications in breeding dogs that small. She told me a lady in town bred her two tinies and the pup was too large. C-section later and that pup ended up being 7 lbs. She said 2 tinies don't guarantee tiny pups. |
Awwww....Not to mention how CRAMPED and crowded the puppies are in a tiny mom - too many problems with tinies - it's just Common Sense that it would be a difficult birth and almost a Guarantee C-Section - PLUS the chance of the puppies being born with serious health issues - They have NO ROOM in a tiny mom !! it's just wrong.... I wish I never heard the word "Teacup" and really don't like the fad to go smaller. :( :( :( :( |
