My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | It really is harder to take care of the little ones. Most of the time you have to carry them everywhere , where the bigger ones just run along side you. I always "thought" I wanted a "tiny" but since have changed my mind. My boy is 3 lbs and he requires alot more assistance then just a 5 lber. I agree with you YorkieRose. |

| My little girl stayed under 3 lbs...until she was around 8 months old. We spayed her and kept finding ways to get her to eat (she's a picky eater), but of course a fixed amount at twice a day. She is now 3.5 pounds...she does seem to have gain some weight after her spay, which is AWESOME!! I want her to grow! Her health means MORE to me than her size!! I do prefer the size of Carmel though, 5.5 lbs, because I don't have to constantly worry about him as much. However, I love them both the way they are.

| Tinies I cant imagine it stopped growing at 24 weeks. I have 4 tinies and none of them stopped growing any earlier than other dogs. I occasionally have tinies crop up in my litters and unless I know someone I trust, I keep them. Until they are grown, they do take a little more monitoring to make sure they eat and do not have other problems as sometimes occur in tinies. My oldest is 7 at 3 lbs. 1 oz. and my youngest is 4 mos. at 1 lb. 7 oz. As far as loving them, they are just as loving and happy as my 10 lb. yorkie. They do require more effort to keep from stepping on them if they are allowed all over the house. My tinies are kept together and play and love each other just as the larger dogs. They are a little more difficult to groom because you have to take care handling them with their fragile bones, and of course jumping on furniture is a "No, No". Basically, they are healthy, happy pups who love to sit in your lap and give kisses.

| Nobody should be breeding for tinies. With that said most breeders who do breed for them say they are going to be smaller than they end up being

| Yea but how can she know that. My Dogs both grew some more when they were almost 2 yrs old. Theres no way you can predict growth patterns. Each dog is different

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I don't breed for tinies. However Genetics is gonna give you what you get. And I agree, a friend of mine and I always laugh...when you see some breeders selling a dog and say its 5 1/2...you may as well plan on 6 ! |

| There is a youtube video of Pinnocchio titled "world's smallest dog" It says he only lived a couple of years I heard that the tiny ones aren't that healthy and don't live a long life. Who'd want a dog that lived in a bird cage anyway? I doubt the girl's dog on FB will stay tiny, tiny. Most grow a little bigger then you expect especially after spay and neutering. I consider 3-4 lbs a tiny tiny.

| That's right. My two were charted to be 4lbs and 6 lbs. Now they're 7 and 8 lbs. I did want smaller ones(to carry both around easily) ,but now I'm glad they're bigger. I'd worry too much about them breaking a leg or something if they were as small as I thought they'd be.

| Thats probably what the breeder told her so shes just going by that. I think breeders can tell some idea what the weight will be because of genetics but they cant predict exact weight or when the dog will stop growing

| She is the breeder. She said she is keeping him, just seemed to be bragging about the size, saying that it won't grow anymore. |

| Well if any of you saw my posting and the little girl in pink on my avatar you will see a tiny. I do not breed for tinys but they do happen just like the teapots do happen. The mom of that girl was 5.5 pounds and dad 5 pounds...all moms side were at least 5 pounds and grandma on moms side was 7 pounds. Dads mom was 6 pounds and dads dad was 4.5 pound...so genetically most pups should be between 4.5 and 7 pounds...but little Emma is 17 months old and weighs 1 pound 10 ounces, her littermates are both 5.5 pounds. I still own her and will till she passes over the rainbow bridge. I have taken full responsibility for this mishap. To purposely breed for this is fool hardy and wrong but some greeders do and then sell them. To me, they should be loved and nurtured and not capitalized on like greeders do. Emma cannot maintain her own body heat well, always wears a sweater and has a heat source nearby. She plays and runs with A.J. (who is 3.5 pounds) but no others. I cannot leave her longer than 5 hours as she eats home cooked food and cannot chew dry kibble. If we go away for a night she must come with us or we do not go. When I go to shows, my partner is with her at all times, or I do not go. Vacations are out of the question. Tiny ones like this are too fragile for ball fetching, romping with others, general doggy stuff. Just to give her a bath I have to medicate her with Benedryl 30 mins prior, and he tongue turns blue with any stress. Her heart is the size of a 3 pound dog, as is her tongue. She has scoliosis (true roach backed) and a cleft palate. She gets pneumonia easily and I have spent well over 5 k this year on her alone. I was reading her puppy weights and here they are: Birth: 1 ounce 1 week: 2 ounces 4 weeks: 4 ounces 6 weeks: 5 ounces 8 weeks: 10 ounces 12 weeks: 13 ounces 16 weeks: 14 ounces 6 months: 1 pound!! finally... 12 months: 1 pound 6 ounces (spayed and teeth removed) 17 months: 1 pound 10 ounces I have hopes that she will reach 2 pounds My grandpa used to say..."I wouldn't take a million dollars for her, but would not pay a nickle for another." and I have to say I agree with that...
