But now you say you want a mentor for showing? If you really want a puppy for showing and that's what the mentor is for then why wouldn't you be looking for a show quality puppy?

Sorry, I did not mean to be confusing. For my first puppy, I know that no one will let me have a Show dog off the bat, so I am ok with a good pet quality while I search for a Mentor. I signed up for the Mentor/Mentee program through AKC but I highly doubt I will find one locally. In the mean time, I would like to get a puppy to "practice" on, like grooming, conformation, training, ect. Does that make a little more sense?

Next - She takes great care of her pups? Then why in the world would she breed "rescues"? Rescues should never be bred! Common sense would tell anyone that breeding a rescue is completely irresponsible and clearly only being done for the money. Shes says they will make beautiful babies - what about healthy ones? I doubt it. Who knows their background? Who knows if there is some recessive gene that could come out in their litters that could lead to a poor sick puppy and costly medical bills and not to mention a lower quality of life for that poor pup. She canceled dinner and didn't even get a sale?? She should care about her dogs not if she gets a sale or not. A reputable breeder who doesn't get a sale after a showing knows its for a reason - that the puppy and person are not right for each other. They wouldn't mind that they wasted their time because they know that eventually this puppy will find its forever home. Or in this case that this so called breeder is someone who clearly is not ethical in her breeding standards and strategies. As for attacking Lucy - she clearly is not a reputable breeder who will only cause problems on this forum. I hope she is banned and that her unethical ways are soon stopped.

Seriously I don't understand how anyone could try and defend her.

It's not that we won't have a litter at this time. We won't allow a puppy to go home during the holidays.....You can look during this time, checking out breeders.

Another thing reputable breeder won't do is allow you to take a pup home on your first meet and greet.

Thank you, I didnt know that! I have no problem meeting a breeder as many times as it takes for them to be comfortable. I am always willing to let them come to my house as well to see where their little one will live. I take great pride in keeping my house neat and clean, and think I could offer a puppy a loving, caring, spoiled house where it would spend what is hopefully a long life...

There are several show breeders right here on YT and many other members who can give you great references for a good breeder. If you're going to put all that time and work into practicing why don't you look for a puppy that is a little older and exhibits some show qualities instead of buying a pet quality pup? I think that's what I would do if it were me looking...and it would cut out a lot of the frustration too.

No one expects a neat and clean house.....well, not spotless. What we want is the best possible home for our pup. One where the pup is loved, fed, kept clean, and proper care. We especially want a home where our pup will live out their entire life.

Take your time and you will find the right breeder, and then the right pup will come along.

I'm not sure if you have considered this yet, but you might want to take a look at going through a rescue. You'll end up with a companion dog that you can love and groom to your hearts content. Plus, you will be saving a life. I have 2 and I couldn't love a show dog any more than my two off-standard love buckets.

I didnt mean to sound like a neat freak, I just meant I dont have stuff lying around that a puppy could get hurt on or chew up. I saw a thread on here about getting down on your hands and knees and see from a puppies point of view how the house looks and pick up or move anything that they can get at. I am just still soo sad today... It has been such a heart breaking day, getting one bad news after the other...

Not everyone is lucky to find a mentor close by. You may have to travel a bit....not many shows in your area.

No to knock AKC....but, going that route isn't going to work.

It's hard to do, but you're going to have to take your heart out of this search. At least for a bit. Use your brain and instincts in finding a breeder. Don't get caught up with the cute puppy, all pups are cute......focust on that breeder.
