| Total Scare of my life! This is long. I just wanted to say to everyone that it only takes a second for something terrible to happen and to be very careful of their precious babies. Thankfully everything is okay but I wanted to share something that happened to me yesterday. Yesterday I thought my world was over. Somehow or another I dropped Hot Rod on his back and he hit his little head on the tile floor. Oh my gosh! I thought I was going to die. He was flailing around and make horrible noises. I thought for sure he broke his back and was having a seizure. I had just given him his joint medicine and started to stand up from the chair with him in my arms and he started to jumpout, well I didn't want him to jump from there so I when to grab him and somehow caught his legs and I must have turned him upside down and down he went. it was about a 2 - 3' fall. I heard him hit the floor. I heard the thump on the floor and the tile. It was awful. and then I heard him crying out. All I could do was scream out his name over and over. I didn't know whether I should attempt to pick him up or what. Somehow I got myself together and got him quiet and scooped him up and righted him. He was shaking and I was shaking and crying. I called my husband right away and told him what happened and he wound up coming home and looked after him for a short while. Meanwhile I called YT'r Brendarash, who lives close to me and she calmed me down and just was wonderful as could be just being there for me to get myself together. Again, Thanks, Brenda!!! from the bottom of my heart. In the meantime I called the vet and they told me what signs to look for. I felt that Hot Rod was not hurt as he was alert. I did put him down so I could watch him walk and he walked in a big circle fine. He came back over to me for me to pick him up and hold him. Whew! He even managed to give me a kiss. I thought my world has crashed when I saw and heard him on the floor. I love him so much that it would just kill me if something happened to him and especially if I was the one who caused it. I just wanted to share this experience so everyone can make sure to be very careful...it only takes a split second for something to go wrong. I realized that I don't have any recent pictures so I snapped this one today. Sorry, they need baths badly, lol Hug your babies and keep them safe!!!

| That is so scary! We had a similar experience with Chip. My cousin was holding Chip outside and Chip wanted down to play but my cousin wasn't letting him down. Just as my cousin went to put him down, Chip jumped, fell, and hit his little leg on the concrete. He screamed and started trying to run and kept falling over. I grabbed him up real quick and started screaming for my husband to get in the car cause we were rushing him to the vet... but hubby being insanely calm as he was told me to put him down and Chip started walking around just fine. I was so scared when that happened thinking he broke his leg, but he's fine. So glad Hot Rod ended up okay!!!

| I know just exactly how you felt. When my deceased Yorkie, Delsi was only 4 months old and weighed only a little over one pound, I picked her up and put her up to my shoulder to take her outside and she just gave a push off over the back of my shoulder and landed head first on the metal door jam, and that was a four foot drop. She was knocked out and we rushed her to the Vet. but she woke up on the way. They found nothing wrong with her on the x-rays. These little ones sure can stand a lot of pounding sometimes. I'm so happy your baby is fine. He knows it wasn't your fault, and it sounds like he's still trying to cheer his mommy up.

| I am so glad Hot Rod is okay. I remember I had a scary one myself. Brandi had started choking one time. I thought I was going to panic I was so scare but somehow in the mist of all this, I managed to calm down and stick my finger in her mouth and pull out what was choking her. I actually was more scared about sticking my finger in her mouth because I was afraid I would do more harm then good but I couldn't let her choke without me trying to do something. So after that little scare, I did a little researc and bookmarked an article called "What to do when your Dog is Choking" as well as other medical emergency tips for pets. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Oh my goodness, that is REALLY scary! I had something like that happen with Thor, though not as serious. He decided to jump out of my arms while I was carrying him, and at the same time, I tried to adjust his position. I dropped him headfirst onto this super-hard outdoors tile, like harder than cement. I had this split-second vision of him cracking his little back on that ground. But he actually did a full 180 degree turn in the air, nose over tail, and landed on his feet completely unharmed. It would have been amazing if I hadn't felt like vomiting.

| Soooo scary! *hugs* I am just so glad everything is okay with little Hot Rod. I remember when Jackson was a little pup, he was probably still only around 5lbs, I did basically the same thing but did not cause such a huge reaction. I was holding him when he decided to leap and he fell sooo hard on the floor, and he did a really loud yelp like five times in a row. I looked him all over, called the vet and all, and he was fine within 2 minutes and back to himself, but oh my how guilty I felt!

Yeah me too. She doesn't even have to me hurt for me. Shoot I want to cry and scoop Brandi and hold up if she starts shaking too much because it's cold or when she gives me that puppy dog look when I have to leave to go somewhere and she can't go with me. Do we have it bad or what? Last edited by yavenay; 12-15-2010 at 07:39 PM. | |

| OMG my heart was racing (and still is!) reading that! I'm so glad he's ok. I too dropped Uni when she was about 4 months. it was while she was still going thru potty training, and I would get up several times during the night. This time I was holding her in one hand and fumbling to get my glasses on with the other. I guess I pushed on her bladder or something causing her to try to move and she fell out of my hand. She landed on carpet, but from our bed which is really high up and she was screaming and screaming. I thought for sure her arm was broken. I set her down a few minutes later and she still wasn't putting her paw down, but when I went to squeeze it and move it around she didn't scream, so I knew it was just sprained and not broken. Boy was I scared that day though.

| I am so glad Hot Rod is OK! What a scare! I know from experience it doesn't take long for an accident to happen. You know how excited our little ones can get when we have been gone most of the day. Betty Boop decided to try and jump into my arms and her back feet slid out from under her and she hit her head on my kitchen TILE floor! She just laid there limp for a minute. She was unhurt, though. I wish I didn't have tile floors. Now my husband wants to put wood floors in our den this next spring. I can see that as an accident waiting to happen. May need to get her some little booties!
