| My first Yorkie, Chipper, loved to chase squirrels. I have to admit my DH would encouraged the play chase. We have 5 wooded acres and he would usually just chase the squirrels out of the yard and stop at the woodline. One time he ran right into the woods and up the hill (with me running behind him). All of a sudden I heard these awful screams and I knew Chipper was in trouble. He comes running to me and I scoop him up and notice he has a huge gapping hole in his chest. I rushed him to the vets. While Chipper was running up the hill, he was impaled by a fallen cedar tree. The vet said that he took slivers of cedar out of his chest. Fortunately besides a short hospital stay, a drain and stictches he was fine. It was very scarey for his mommy.

| Scoobers was out running in the yard one day and he came sulking in, I just knew something was wrong...then I saw blood in a trail on the floor! I was freaking out searching him all over...his ear had a slash on it-minor but wow do ears bleed! Apparently he cornered in the yard and the rose bush got him really good (found some of his hair on it)...trimmed that mean bush up and put mesh around the bottom on it. I actually nailed Princess between the eyes tossing a kong to her in the yard once...be glad you only tossed it at the wall..I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, yet I really nailed her that time. She shook it off and wanted it thrown again immediately after...then again she's a mini Schnauzer-they've heads like goats LOL Elvis went running down the hall bounced off the cabinet then off the wall I was like what the cream cheese he's gone crazy-do other Yorkies tuck their bottoms and run all spazzed out like he does?...now he crashes into the China cabinet and then the edge of the wall almost every time he goes down the hall toward my bedroom now...I think he's lost depth perception in his right eye from the pressure on his optical nerve from his seizures...had to put a gate up so now he only gets to go down the hall walking with me...decluttered a bit to make sure he doesn't crash things like removed the coffee (what the heck do you call the leather things with trays on top and seats inside-like everyone has one now) table I guess it is. Now I'm thankful for the one time accidents and a little weary of them being more than a one time emergency incident considering... |

| Senior Yorkie Talker | Sounds all too familiar in my home! I always feel worst when I have thrown the ball that lands the injury! The other day my little male thought I was going to throw a toy for him and turned to chase it (I wasnt even thinking about it!) and he missed the steps and took a huge leap off all three of them, twisted in the air and somehow landed half on his feet. No injuries besides his ego! I feel even worse when I throw something wrong and they run into a door or couch trying to get it My little female doesnt worry but the boy is a real sissie and comes crying to mommy for kisses

| Wow! These stories gave me chills. These little ones are fearless and fast and can sure get into trouble. I'm glad your stories have happy endings. ![]() Quote:

| Senior Yorkie Talker | They are so often a danger to themselves! They really dont realise their size! Last night my little girl was chasing geckos (it's a small obsession she has) and was standing in the pouring rain on top of her kennel, paws up against the wall squealing in delight and jumping up and down and there wasnt even a Gecko around! I just saw disaster looming when Trigger decided to join her in the fun and he is so goofy and generally knocks her over so I had to dash outside and bring them in to avoid any accidents! No one wants a medical emergency at this time of year! or EVER in fact!

| I'm glad Kacee is okay. It scares me too when I hear the slighest little yelp . We have hardwood floors and sometimes Sophie would start running after a toy and skid into the wall. She has learned to shorten her slid and tippy toe when she's close to a wall now. Yorkies are so smart aren't they?

Oh my gosh! Your story is so scary. I see myself fainting in the floor to find an injury like this on one of my girls. Glad you were able to keep it together and he is okay. | |
