| This Isn't Normal Yorkie Hair! Alright, my little yorkie Bear is almost two, and his fur never grew much at all (He just got a shave though if you read my other post -_-) and I am worried, his hair looks so much different from other yorkies. And the colors are way strange, grey and jet black! Anyone out there who can help? Why won't it grow out like other yorkies?

Like that? Dark saddle, different colors on the head, and poofy almost curly hair? Face grows pretty fast, but body hair kinda slow? If you say yes to the above, you have a soft coated yorkie! I have one and I'm trying to grow out his hair. It's slow going right now, but I hope to have a longer coat on him soon.

| I looked at little Bear's pics and he looks totally normal...Yes, he sounds like he may have a soft coat or some call it cotton. I stated in my reply to your haircut thread, I have two with that type of coat and one with a hard or silk coat. I can allow my Yogi with a hard coat to grow a beautiful to the floor coat, it hardly ever matts and then Bogus, I battled with trying to keep him in a long coat ( that never looked like I wanted) and then last year finally cut him into a darling short cut. Suki, is two, and her coat is I would say mixed and I have to watch her legs and chest for matting constantly. One thing I can tell you is when I do trim my short haired guy, Bogus, for some reason when their coat is really short, it looks like a variety of different colors all over, as when its a little longer you don't notice the variation in color as much. Try and post some pics of Bear. He is really a cute guy!

| My five year yorkie is the same way! He has that soft, curly hair that never turned silky and silver, and when I try to grow it it becomes matted so I stopped trying. Is there a way to differentiate how their hair will grow out as an adult? I tend to like darker haired yorkie puppies better and i don't know if there's any correlation in having a soft curly hair as an adult |

| http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...rt-thread.html I hope the link above works...there is alot about the coat of a pup and determining how it may look as an adult.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | There is nothing wrong with your yorkies hair. He is a soft, cotton coat. They tend to be darker in color. He looks just like my Morgan and like DvlshAngel985's Kaji. Morgan is going to be 5 this april and her head is still 3-4 different colors. check out these pictures from when she was around 1 year old: This is Morgan and her biological brother Oliver. You can see how different their coats are. Oliver is a nice gold color on his head and the hair is obviously silkier. Morgan is a dustier, more muted color. Her head is tan, grey, and black (and it still is today) and is obviously thicker and poofier. These two pictures are her when she was 10 months and on her 1st birthday.

| He's 2 years 2 months old in that pic. You'll have to wait a bit to see what kind of coat he'll have. It could just be puppy hair.

| Maybe. The only change I've seen is a silver stripe right down the middle of his back. Instead of Casanova, I was calling him Pepe Le Pew. It's gone now. He's pretty much been the same since I got him at a year old.

| So glad for this forum and this thread. All the Yorkies I had seen before had that long hair to the floor, sometimes trimmed a little shorter. I get my guy and fall hopelessly in love with him, and then as he gets older he has this very curley soft silber black hair. Some women would pay a fortune to have hair like him. His face is silver and tn, and looks everybit Yorkie, but I did wonder about that hair, which I have grown to appreciate. |
