| I need help I need help as I am unsure what to do. I lost my Miniature SChnauzer 2 years ago. I didn't think I would make it through it until I got my beautiful little Belle (morkie) she joined our family which consisted of our Lab who became Belle's "brother". This past September we lost our Lab, I still can't get over that. I have problems with depression anyway and this is making it worse. We always left TJ (Lab) home with Belle, she would be in her crate and we knew she was safe as TJ adored her and would never let anyone harm her or take her. Now without TJ to be with her when we are gone, I can't bring myself to leave Belle alone. We always put her in her crate and cover her up and she is quiet and sleeps until we get home. I just can't do it. If we have to go somewhere, Belle goes with and one of us waits in the car with her. I keep stating my case that if we got a sister or brother for Belle I'd feel better about leaving her home as she wouldn't be alone. My DH laughs at me like a Yorkie is going to guard her. I think it's more the point that she wouldn't feel alone. Please help, any opinions would be appreciated. |

| I always say the more the merrier, Lol. If she's used to having company she may like a new friend. However if you decide to get her a friend it would probably be best if you let (her) pick her new friend. As you do not want to stress her after loosing her old friend, that would defeat the purpose. |

| I'm sorry for your losses and that you are having a tough time. I must disagree with you husband though. I have a 6 month old yorkie who goes in the crate when we leave the house. I also have a 2 year old morkie that guards the crate when we are away. Cooper will sit right beside Max, making sure everything is ok. When I arrive home, Max is in his crate so excited to see me, so I think. But when I open the crate it's Cooper that he runs to! I agree with Lillymae also. Perhaps Belle can choose a friend. Maybe you would also feel better with a larger size yorkie. Mine are both 10 pounds. You already know that Belle would feel less alone with a sibling. Go for it, as you sound like a really caring mom and could provide a loving home.

| I agree with AllDogBoots. I had one yorkie for almost two years before I chose to get another, and I can tell that he is much happier now with a friend. They are not crated, but we put them in a large bedroom with laminate flooring when we are gone, and they have a great time together playing and sleeping all day. I would definitely think Belle would enjoy having a playmate to keep her from being bored. Remember though, dogs live in today... not yesterday. She is most likely over the loss of her buddy, so don't worry too much about her

| I think you should get another dog. When we put Guru to sleep this past summer, we brought Alex home that same week so that Vinnie would not be alone. While he definitely felt the loss of Guru, he seemed to like the company Alex provided. Several months later and they actually seem very close. I always think that when one dog passes, you should immediately adopt another one. There are so many dogs out there who need good homes, so if you can provide one, why not?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | First i just want to say how sorry i am for your losses. I agree with lillymae about letting Belle pick her new friend. There are so many dogs in shelters and rescues that need homes and I think that would be the best place to start.

| I always like to see our pups have company of their own kind if people can swing it. Mine have so much fun with each other. They play and attack and tease. They are like children playing with toys. I get so much enjoyment just watching them interact, maybe even more than when I am the one playing with them. I think it would be nice to make your pick of the breeder you want, and then bring along Belle when it comes to picking the exact one. But if she does not instantly take to one, I would not let that deter me. Mine usually cold shoulder the newbie for a week to a month before they are fully accepted. My little Annie was VERY persistent and just kept after them til they had to play with her by defeat. So she broke previous records and had them bonded within a week or so! Sorry for your losses -- I lost two of my pups in the same year too, so I can empathize with you -- one a 17 1/2 year old dachshund and the other a 4 year old Yorkie. I had a bit of hard time handling it and even took an extended break from YT as I had a hard time even talking about it. But I finally got to a place where I could feel right getting another -- actually for me it was not planned. My breeder friend called saying she had the exact female puppy I had always described wanting -- sure enough she did -- my Annie!
