| Mix Breed Hype Puggle? Well it's a cross between a Pug and a Beagle. Seems very popular. What's your thoughts on mix breeding and how some have crossed Yorkies with other breeds, eg YorkiePoo, YorkieChi. It was on Global news here in Canada and a vet said that mix breeding is good and how one can help cut out the health problems, etc. I wonder how good the offspring are when mix breeding yorkies. Just curious as to what your comments are on this topic.

| I heard it on the radio this morning as I was trying to relax in a massage. No luck. A cross breed is a Mutt no more no less and a blend is not healthier then a pure breed. You have twice the chance of problems as with just one breed and training a cross can be difficult. a Border collie you must be extremely gentle with and a rotti firm what do you do with a cross. A pug and a beagle you got a loud, long backed possible breathing problems and on and on. It is what is called designer dogs and is done to grab attention and money and a way for bad breeders to make easy cash. When a goldendoodle goes for 1500 and a pure breed yorkie can be got for that thank you I want a pure breed that can have it genetics traced and a breeder that will back it. I am well aware that all breeds of dogs where crossed at one time to get what we have know but it was to service a need in society not service greedy people. Joy |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | The TODAY show made it Worse this morning by doing a big segment on Puggles - They made them sound like the next Big Thing in Mixes and the impression I got was it's HIP to have one in New York ......they go for SIX Hundred $$$$ ...cute but still...with all the dogs in shelters this is just sad. Why would someone get a dog to be 'hip' or in keeping up with the latest Fad...it's really such a shame |

I agree with you there! Keeping up with the latest fad is very sad!!!! I don't know much about mix breeds, but if one needed help, I'd be there. But I would never mix breed my babies.

| Ugh! Anyway you go about it it is a mixed dog. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY AT YOUR LOCAL SHELTER THAT NEED GOOD HOMES!!!! Why oh why do people do this, it makes me so crazy. My friend has one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen and it came from the local shelter. She only had to pay $100. My sister has 2 from her local shelter and this past weekend she adopted 2 kittens. I mean why do this, people are supposed to breed for the betterment of the breed not because they think the mix will be cute and they could make a quick buck. And the prices OMG, I can't believe someone would pay that, when they might get lucky to find a similar mix at the shelter for MUCH LESS. I have NOTHING against mixed breeds, if I didn't live in a condo I would prbably have 100 dogs most of which I would rescue from the shelter because the sad look on their little faces looking from behind the bars on their cages say "please take me home" and everytime I go there to donate I always go and try and pet and see as many as I can and then I always want to take them home. I usually watch the today show and it makes me CRAZY for irresponsible journalism by giving these dogs 15 minutes of fame all they did was expose them to more people who think those are cute let me go drop a wad of cash instead of making a better choice and going down to their local shelter and rescueing a dog that really needs their help. I totally agree with you guys. UGH!!!

| Rescue a Furbaby TODAY Gotta love the little mixes. Look at Miss Pee Pee Pants. Who couldn't love her? But of course you NEVER could count on a look or temperment from a mix and I agree that breeding mixes ON PURPOSE is a money thing. Whoops guess i should clarify.. We NEVER can count on looks or temperments but at least with a HISTORY on the purebreds we have a general idea

Donating YT 14K Club Member | You want a mixed breed dog, go to a shelter...there's plenty in there! I'm not against people owning mixed breed dogs but to try and call it some sort of exotic breed and put a hefty price tag on it is not good. And then the vet with his statement is encouraging it????? How many hundreds of thousands of mixed and pure breed dogs are euthanized each and every year???? I just don't understand it!

| I can't believe that these people are actually selling these "Mutts". I'm sure their great dogs, but their Mutts. My Vet said he would rather go to the pound, couldn't believe this. That is exactly how I feel to. There are so many homeless designer dogs in the pound.

| It really bothers me, the statements that some vets make about things like mixes being more healthy and about pet nutrition.... Pet owners believe and listen to what they say to make proper choices about their pets well being. But too many vets have not had the proper education about these topics and give very slated or incorrect advice and the general pet owners have no idea. It makes me mad!!! Sorry, just a vent |
