| I don't like to leave Gatsby alone for more then 4 hours but when we had a death in the family he was left alone for almost 12 he had food and a automatic waterer and i did have the neighbor peek her head in the window at him but for the most part he was alone from 8 in the morning till 8 that same evening he was fine but he was upset so i would say 6 hours at the longest but preferably 4

| I do work and I leave Brandi alone for about 9 hours. I work from home on Wednesday so at the most I only leave her alone for that long is two days in a row. She's used to it. She sleeps most of the day and then around 3:00 pm she gets up and that's when she starts to get restless and tries to find ways of escaping her ex-pen. I know all of this because I have a webcam setup so I can see what she's doing. For the most part she's okay. Funny thing is when it's getting close to the time I get home, that's when she is the most active. She will sleep for about a good 6-7 hours. Also get something escape proof (if she's not fully house trained). I can't tell you the number of times I came home to Brandi greeting me at the front door with a little present. I have an ex-pen that's big enough to fit her potty pads, bed and a water dish. Last edited by yavenay; 11-12-2010 at 12:09 PM. |

I don't leave Brandi alone like that but I will leave my cat alone for two days because cats don't need or want much attention. Brandi on the other hand, I don't think I could leave alone that long because she does require a lot more attention not to mention I would be scared something would happen. | |

| mine are usually home with one of us most of the day but days we work the same shift it's a max of 8 hours. but that's also why i got another dog and have two. they go into their 4x4 ft. ex pen together and mostly sleep and cuddle all day. i don't feel as bad with them being home while we work if they have each other. but i try to not make them ever alone more than the 8 hours we're both working. and a lot of days we work different shifts and they aren't alone hardly at all. |

| hi everyone i have been a member 4 almost a year. love to read everyones posts. so not computer savy, didn't want to post till i was able to have a picture of my babies oliver & mallory. my babies a full yorkie & part yorkie are my life. i consider them whenever making plans. but i am a single mom & have to work. i totally take offense to anyone that may think i love my dogs less because i leave them longer than 4 hours. i am soooo jealous of anyone that has the option to only leave there dogs for that long. i got my second baby so that oliver would have at least someone to keep him company when i was gone. i totally love my furbabies as much as anyone else, maybe more, im obsessed. so lets all be tolerant & understanding of eachother. sorry if sounds defensive, but this has always been hard on me & it hurts when others are judgemental. love yorkie talk. pics of my babies soon |

| Dinky gets left at home on Sundays...church, then lunch with the in-laws. My husband hates to leave him. I'm a little more practical about it. We take him everywhere we can. When our daughter got married this summer though, he had to be alone for 8 hours. I thought of boarding him that day, but I believe that for him that would be more stressful than leaving him alone, even for an extended time. |

| Teegy has been left alone from 8-12 hours. I do have people who can check in on him if needed. If he has an accident in the house, which rarely happens, he does it in the bathroom by the toilet, quite funny. He has lots of toys, food and water and beds in several locations around the house. They usually eat play and then sleep. I've come home and he's in a ball on the duvet and barely raises his head at me. |

| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I would be terrified to leave my dog alone for more than a few hours. I once reluctantly left my two cats for two nights -- several water sources, several litter boxes, lots of food (the were free-feeders on kibble). Came home to find one cat ok, the other nearly dead. Emergency trip to the vet - she had a major hairball blocking her intestines and I almost lost her. I have never left a pet alone overnight since. It seems to me that the smaller the animal, the quicker a situation - infection, tummy problem, whatever - can go from minor to tragic. |

| We leave Truffle home approx 10 hours per day during the week. She does have a dog run off our sunroom so she runs out to pee and then back in. My husband is off every other Friday so that helps, and every other week my sister comes to get her while we are at work and keeps her a couple of days with her yorkie. She loves it at my sister's house. That said - I HATE leaving her. I feel guilty, think about her several times per day, etc. Working in Houston, TX - it takes I am on the road 2 hours per day and can't do anything about that. And.... I am way jealous that some of you get to take your babies to work. |

| The longest time our dog is ever left alone is on weekends in particular when we're at church. We're usually gone for 2-3 hours. My husband and I work opposite hours so Mocha is rarely left home alone during the week. When ever possible Mocha goes with us. He his my husband's "errand buddy"! He's so darn spoiled! The few times he's been left for a longer period of time, he's done great and has been fine, other than the places where he showed he was angry by eating the drywall, lol! |
