In your first post she looked like a basset hound but now I'm not too sure. Whatever she is she's a lucky girl to have you and your husband as neighbors and I know she's going to have a wonderful life. I just can't see how anybody can treat a dog that way. I can't even yell at my bassets because they look at you with those said eyes and I end up kissing them. Anybody who mistreats an animal should be shot and I'd love to be the one pointing the gun at them.

It sounds like Rosie loves her new home. I'm sure she enjoyed having a kennel all her own where she's warm and safe. She probably slept like a baby, because she was clean and had a full tummy. I think she's pretty. Pretty skinny, but pretty...

Her name was Rosie when we got her, I wont be changing it because to me the names fits her. She wanted me to wait because the dog needed a bath and she didnt want me to take her "dirty and smelly" but at the last minute she backed out because she was unsure of what Rosie might do if she tried to put her in the tub her self.. ummm when we bathed her, at my house, she just sat there..lol.. she is a sweet heart and other than loving the garbage and hates being outside (cant blame her) she is a good dog.

Hugs4all4, your first pic of that poor dog made me gasp......Those people cruelty is horrendous but what is more horrendous is their absolute callous attitude towards her obvious condition, which is clearly showing her starvation from them!!

It brought tears to my eyes when you posted that you now had her in your care!....Thank you for doing that for her!.....

I also thought about those people possibly trying to get her back after you get her healthy.....I agree with ladyjane about getting some form of a statement that they are turning Rosie over to you, even if you need to fudge it a little saying you need it for the vet or to get a license for her......

What a beautiful thing you and your hubby have done. It was so heartbreaking reading about how that poor dog was treated. Bless your heart. Rosie is now warm, fed and loved by you!

I also agree with ladyjane. Anybody who treats a dog like they did are dirt bags and I wouldn't trust them.

Last night went extremely well considering she hasnt ever been in a kennel or a house for that matter. She never made a fuss at all and when I got up this morning to take turns letting the dogs out she didnt want to come out of her kennel. lol.. so I gave her some more time and when she whined I let her out. She doesnt like it outside very long before she is whining at the door to come back in. ( we have a fenced in yard off our back door). Its alittle chaotic around here right now but Im sure in a few days it will settle down. At this moment Im putting all of the dogs and cats away so I can give her time to roam the house, check out her new surrondings etc. She loves it. She likes the garbage can too... My beagle is still going nuts at times and barks like a mad woman but she is waggin her tail at the same time. Anyways, here some new pics that I took this morning of her, one is with my son, (red shirt) and the other one is with the son of who I got her from. They love that she is in the house and no longer barks to keep them up.. She still has that orange collar but we will get her a new one as well as a harness this weekend. The girl needs to learn to walk on a lead...

SO sweet! She probably feels like she is in paradise now. Love it. She looks so purdy after her bath. Hugs to sweet Rosie.

I feel just slightly more kindly toward the woman knowing she was embarrassed the dog was in such hideous condition. You and your husband really are wonderful for taking her in!

I can't believe how much better she looks in those pictures already! It's amazing what hope, love and a bath can do, isn't it? She must be so much happier. I really get ill thinking of dogs, pack animals, chained outside alone. Even in GA, the armpit of humane animal laws, is starting to see legislation against this in some counties. I so hope you at least keep Rosie long enough for the people to see what a wonderful pet they gave up after she gets a little training and lots of love. Can't blame her for not wanting out of the kennel, she was probably content and feeling like a lucky dog being in it.

You mentioned that she used to get loose, didn't you? If so, she might have been hunting snacks from garbage cans if she were hungry and was rewarded doing it if she actually found anything. You might have to get one of those trash cans that doesn't open even if it is tipped over by a dog . Another thing I saw, on Victoria Stillwell's show, with a dog that got into the garbage, but was too small to get it's head in the can and would knock it down, was putting bricks or something heavy under the bag to keep it in place. There are easy ways around this. For me, with a large Ital Greyhound that we have who never suffered like Rosie, I have my covered trash can in the utility room and keep the door to the room closed to prevent her from helping herself to anything, including paper towels to shred.

I hope you keep an eye out for the shih tzu. I hate to think of people like this getting another dog.

She probably thinks she's died and gone to doggie heaven. She's never had it so good. Can you all just imagine how much better she feels after having had a bath? Her skin was probably crawling!
