| Guess what Just thought I would let everyone know, Sophie was not a Yorkie, she was a Silky. I never realized they were different until recently and only because I have been looking for another Yorkie. I have decided that I want another Silky. I hope I can still be here and enjoy the chat and advice from all you wonderful Yorkie owners because you all know I do not have a yorkie. I have a yorkie poo now, even though Scooter looks more yorkie than poodle he is still just my mutt and I love him. I have been looking high and low for a Silky and not having any luck so if anyone has any ideas or knows a trusted breeder please let me know. Donna |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I didn't know Silky terriers looked so much like Yorkies until I started researching breeds to try to decide what kind of dog to get. I wonder how many people think they have "teapot" Yorkies but actually have Silkies. Not that it really matters - we love our dogs no matter what they're called, don't we? | I really think Jackson is a Silky. I've looked into the breed quite a bit so let me know how far you are willing to travel for a better, I've got a few good ones 'bookmarked'.

| Have you check out the club's website? It's Silky Terrier Club of America They have breeders listed by state, but I didn't look to see if there were any in OH. Good luck.

| DNA testing? I have seen SO many people asking "Yorkie or Silky?" BUT really how would they ever know with even DNA testing because weren't Silky's bred from Yorkies?

Did you buy from a breeder? Did they tell you that she was a yorkie? I guess I don't see hw you would NOT know, if you buy from a reputable breeder. If you buy from a mill or a pet store, You never know what you are buying. | |

| From the AKC website. Silky Terriers lineage is derived from Yorkies. "Developed at the end of the 1800s in Australia, the Silky Terrier was created when a number of Yorkshire Terriers from England were brought into parts of Australia and bred to Australian Terrier bitches in an attempt to improve coat color in the blue and tan Australian Terrier. The resulting litters produced individuals shown as these three different breeds. The Silkys were then bred together until a recognized type was fixed." | Yes, 1/2 yorkie + 1/2 Australian terrier = silky terrier.

| Princes Mom is right. The friend that I got Sophie from informed me when I talked to her and told her about losing Sophie. I told her I was looking for another Yorkie and she informed me that Sophie was not a Yorkie, but a Silky. Silkys are usually bigger and hardier. ( not as fragile ) and around my house that means everything lol. I am so excited about this new little girl. I am adding some pics of her on my profile because I have no idea how to do it here lol. |
