Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | I had such a scare last night. Last night was horrible. I took Poppy out for a walk last night, at one point I went to switch her leash from my left hand to my right hand. At that very second when I was switching and didnt have tight ahold she pulled and I lost my grip on her leash. I tried to grab it and shouted for her to stop but she started running, I was terrified and I couldnt catch her! I thought I had lost her! The leash was trailing along the path behind her and I jumped to put my foot on the leash to try and stop her, it must have pulled her back and she yelped. She went near my feet and as I was running I tripped over her and she yelped again. I was terrified! I was on the floor too by this stage, I grabbed her and tried to check her out. Because of the dark there was shadows on her face and it looked like her face was covered in blood, I nearly fainted!! I ran home with her but luckily she was okay and there was no blood. But heres the strange thing... she smelled of poop. I thought she must have gotten such a fright when I tripped over her she messed herself, but I checked her and she was clean. But the smell was so strong! I gave her a bath to make sure but there was nothing on her. I dont know what happend, I know its weird but do you think its possible she got a fright and pumped? Im just so glad shes okay and I caught her, I feel ill just thinking about it. She could have been hit by a car or anything! I was so scared. Needless to say I will be making sure I have a FIRM GRIP on the leash before I switch hands next time.

| I know it's scarey when your dog gets loose and you can't get them. Sunday my friend and I was on the way to shop. All of a sudden we turned around and there was Zoe right behind us. We never even saw her leave the house. We live on a very busy street and we were in a total panic because she didn't have her collar on. I told my friend not to yell because that would make her run, so we called her with our regular tone of voice and she stopped and we were able to pick her up. I also had a big scare yesterday when I called my dogs into the house and Zach my yorkie was missing from the group. I never leave him alone in the yard even though it's fenced with a 6 foot fence because we have a pool. I started calling him and he never came usually he does. I looked all over the yard and he was nowhere in sight. All I could think of is that he dug his way out or went under the gate which is a little too hgh. I also thought somebody came in and took him although I don't think that could happen because we have a very smooth fence and it would be impossible to climb, but you never know. All of a sudden I saw Zach running through the divider we had put in the back yard to keep the dogs out of the pool area. He was so small he had gotten into the other side of the yard through the slats on the divider. I picked him up and started crying with relief. He looked at me as If he thought I had lost my mind. I'll neve leave him out there by himself again even for a second even though it's safe. |

| Thank goodness she's ok! I can only imagine how terrifying that was for you. About the smell - I would guess that she probably expressed her anal glands when she got scared. Mine do that occasionally when they have a fright and I have to wash their little bottoms to get rid of the smell. Sending hugs for you and Poppy. Bonny

| The very first day I got Oliver he made a run for it, luckily I caught him a couple of yards over. I was so scared to let him go after that, but he must know how good he has it. I very rarely leash him at all anymore. Just for the walk to the park, once we get there it comes off... the yard is fenced though. I only let him loose when I'm right there with him. But thank goodness little Poppy is home safe with you!!

| It must have been scary Monday yesterday. I had a fright also. I do not have a fenced in yard so my dogs stay inside all the time, except when we are out back on the deck - its up high and they can't go down the stairs. Well, my husband had come in from the garage, but left the garage door open. The door leading into the kitchen didn't fully close (which is on a hinge and closes automatically behind you). The wind from the garage door being open - blew open the door, just enough for Beckham to get out. But.........I was busy cooking and I called out to my daughter to go and close the door because it was open - never thinking that the dog got out. About 10 minutes later we hear a very faint bark (he never barks) outside of the garage door. OMG - when I opened the door and saw him there I wanted to cry. Thank God he did not go far and knew to come back. I'm glad to hear you and Poppy are okay. I know how scary that feeling can be.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so glad you were able to grab her and neither of you were hurt.. It is so scary to see them lose and know if you panic they may keep running away from you.

YT 1000 Club Member | I'm glad you were able to get her. That is scary. Charlie is a runner but natalie is not. Charlie has ran across the road I don't know how many times and it scares me to death....now he never gets out of the house without a leash on unless he is sneaky and darts out which he don't do as much as he use to. |

| OMG! That had to be terrifying! It has happened to me before also... I have to tie a knot in the hand loop of all my leashes bc I have small hands and the leashes can pull off my hand easily if I don't knot them. I had one of mine actually pull out of her harness. Tug, tug, when I turned and looked, she was loose! On the busiest road we cross too! She didn't go far, Thank God. I didn't think they could slip out of a harness, especially as easily as she did it. And it was adjusted so only two fingers would fit under all around. I have changed them over to a harness similar to a buddy belt, and that seems to be working better so far. Do be careful though. I believe they can feel when we're changing hands, and they will try to take off. The fight or flight reaction will cause the anal glands to automatically release. If it's inconvenient to give them a bath when that happens, a bit dental rinse on a cotton ball will kill the odor, just carefully wipe around the anus. So glad she's okay... and you too!
