Tatiana is petite, too. She's 3 lbs, and in good health. Truthfully, I think most of her weight is hair, as she has a thick coat. When she's bathed, and her hair is wet and matted down, she's really tiny. LOL |
Ben was always 4 pounds until he was neutered and now he is gaining weight on me. I will nip that in the bud but he is at least 4.5 lbs now. Annie is only a puppy so 2 pounds at 4 months is too early to say. Each dog is different though -- you need to feel for ribs. If the vet told you he is fine and the right size, then his bone structure is just a little bigger than some. I would not make him diet in order to reach a smaller weight. Vets are usually pretty conservative and will tell you if they are heading for obesity. If he is extra muscular and very active, that sometimes adds some weight too -- good weight. Some are petite and some are larger. You just have a little larger yorkie -- more to love. |

Carly (who incidently "charted" to be a very large Yorkie) weighs in at 4 lbs, 6 ozs, she is short and looks "healthy". Gracie (who charted to be small) weighs 5.5 lbs and is skin and bones with a top line that is at least an inch higher than Carly's. Tall and lean said the vet that I took her to last week as she gave birth 5 weeks ago and I was concerned that though she eats and eats, the puppies were draining her. He said she was fine, but I don't like that I can feel her ribs and backbone but she has always been on the lean side so I guess they're all different. Kendra |

My 2 are 3 weeks apart and 2 ozs apart. Jackson is 6mos old and weighs 5lbs 8ozs. Jillian is 5mos and a week and weighs 5lbs 6ozs. We have a scale at home and I weighed them a couple of days ago. They haven't really put on much weight in awhile so I am not sure where they are in their growth pattern. Their parents were 4-5 pounds and so were their grandparents, well one was 6lbs. So I am not sure where they will end up. I love the fact that they are close in size because they love to play together and at their size I do not stress as much. I agree with the other posts. I think each dog's weight should be measured by their body's structure. |
Buster is 8 lbs 12ozs at 15 months. I have been told that he needs to loose weight. He should be around 5.5 according to my vet. He didn't look too fat but he definitely was not skinny. I think I was giving him too many treats or too large of a portion when we were training him. He just had LP surgery so we will be cutting back on his treats/ food a little and try to get his weight down. But with the post surgery restrictions I will take our time. I have read articles and they say to cut back 5% of their calorie intake and if they are losing continue with the 5%. If they are not losing cut back another 5%. They also say to weigh them once a week while trying to loose and once a month while maintaining weight. |
