| Digging at bedding? Anyone else's Yorkie dig at their bedding before nighttime? Piper sleeps with me and it never fails...every night when she gets in bed she'll scratch and dig at the bedding. She isn't moving any of it around to create a nest or anything, it's so strange. She'll do the same with blankets and stuff as well. |

| OH definitely! And heaven forbid you try to help them get comfortable. That just starts the whole process over.

| Yes, Lily does this ALL the time whenever she lays down. The couch, the bed everywhere!

| YEPPER!!! That would be our Madds... I was getting worried that she was going to hurt herself or something. She is so intense when she does this you can tell she is working every muscle in her body to the extreme. But sounds like it is very normal behavior. Peggy, Monkey & Maddie

YT Addict | Coco does this all the time! Sometimes she'll even do it on command! If she'll be standing on the bed I start saying, "dig, dig, dig, dig, dig!!!" Then she'll start going crazy! It's so funny and cute to watch.

| All my dogs do this, but each one does it slightly differently. This behavior is part of the denning instinct in dogs - they like to prepare a spot where they will rest and it is instinct to do this. Terriers (and some other breeds) are more prone to burrowing behaviors. This means the dog is preparing his den and getting ready to rest. Some dogs will gather toys and resources in their dens. My dog Barney prepares his spot each night by going down off our bed to his toys and taking his nylabones up one by one to his spot. He places them down, then he circles and digs his spot and then he lies down to rest. It's like when we fluff up our pillows for ourselves.

| Every dog I've had has done this. It cracks me up. It's as if they look at the spot and decide that it doesn't look right, then they proceed to dig and nest to get things "just right." Then, even though they have moved or changed absolutely nothing, it is suddenly perfect and more comfy and the new-and-improved spot.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | All 3 of mine do it, we notice Baxter and Cooper doing it on nights we think they are "overly tired" or if we have new, clean sheets on the bed, maybe they don't smell right to them??? LOL Darcy will even paw and dig at the carpet, or the kitchen floor before she lays down. I always wonder what, exactly is she adjusting?? |
