How long can your furbaby hold it...

Lexi was trained on the pee pad to potty and the last month or so I trained her to potty outdoors (She's doing a fabulous job by the way).

When I go to work I leave her for about 9 hours alone in a play pen. I also leave a pee pad in there just in case. She always peed once when i'm away BUT recently (last 5 days) She's held it till I got home.

Now I find Lexi seems to be holding it the entire time im out at work. 9 hours+

How long is a yorkie able to hold their pee or poo??

Lexi is 7lbs. For some reason i've read that they have to go every 4 hours. Or is that not true???

Brooklyn holds it all night, at least eight hours if not more. If I get up to potty at night, I take her out too- out of courtesy . During the day she can hold it for what seems like forever. I leave her gated in the laundry room with a potty pad and most days it is still dry when I get home. Every now and then I'm at work for almost 12 hours and the pad will still be dry . Occasionally there is one circle of pee on the pad, but lately it's been totally dry. She is 5 and a half months old and weighs at least 6 lbs.

Lexi seems to want to go pee in the middle of the night and looks at me while i'm sleeping and starts to cry...recently when she got up in the middle of the night she dribbled a bit on the carpet so I had to take her out to pee (even though I take her out right before bed! I thnk she likes to be comfortable)....If lexi knew what a potty bell was...I swear she'd use it ALL TIME TIME! I was going to consider a potty bell but i'm not sure if she'd find it funny or like a game and constantly ring it just to go outside LOL.

LOL that is funny...when I come home I too look to see if there is a circle of pee on that pad! most of the time when it's clean...i feel so proud of Lexi!
When I get up to pee at night I know she wants to go too! If I don't take her out the same as me...she'll pee on the carpet probably thinking it's not fair...So I too got to take her out everytime I get out of my bed at night to go bathroom.

The bell will start out as a potty ring and then turn into a game. It's knowing when the real rings happen. I'm a huge advocate for bell training, although I think I may take mine out of the bedroom! Maybe if he sees there's no way to notify me then he won't need to go out and will go back to bed

I am amazed at how good our Yorkies do, I always heard that small dogs have to go more often... small bladders & all. I do notice my daughters little girl goes a little more often than Jonah. Jonah, even if he has been in 7 -8 hours, and I know he has to go, would prefer playing over peeing and I must insist he potty which he finally does and then lifts his leg for what seems like 1 - 2 minutes.

thats what I heard. Smaller dogs, smaller bladders and cannot hold their pee. But I realized Lexi can hold it for a longer time which amused me.
