How long can your furbaby hold it... I know as a puppy we have to take our babies outdoors to potty every 2-3 hours. Lexi was trained on the pee pad to potty and the last month or so I trained her to potty outdoors (She's doing a fabulous job by the way). When I go to work I leave her for about 9 hours alone in a play pen. I also leave a pee pad in there just in case. She always peed once when i'm away BUT recently (last 5 days) She's held it till I got home. Now I find Lexi seems to be holding it the entire time im out at work. 9 hours+ How long is a yorkie able to hold their pee or poo?? Lexi is 7lbs. For some reason i've read that they have to go every 4 hours. Or is that not true??? |
Elvis is 3 1/2 months...he goes 2-5 hours during the day. And 10-12 overnight...He's about 3 1/2 pounds now. |
I think it has a lot to do with the puppies age. Of course every puppy is different (and yours seems amazing - btw). I've been told to take your puppies age, let's say its 5 months old and add 1 = 6 hours that your puppy can hold it. Of course the size has a lot to do with it also. I think a 7 lb yorkie will hold it a lot better than a 3 lb one. Again - every yorkie is different - but I have found that females are easier to train than males - but that's just my experience. Also, they will most likely hold it all night, but during the day will need more breaks. Keep up the good work, looks like your doing great! |
Morgan is 4 months, 4 pounds and holds it 8 hours straight overnight even though there is a pad just outside in the hallway. During waking hours he makes use of the bathroom pad as he feels the urge but he CAN hold it longer. |
Bentley has been able to hold his peeps and poops overnight from when he was 6 months old. Consistency of bringing him outside to do his business, I think is the key. When he woke up, after he ate etc. He had tops 4 accidents in the house. My Boxer, Baxter is the same...I got him a 5 weeks old...long story...and he had been trained the same way and will not do anything in the house. So, each can and have held it for at least 10 hours if need be. |
Jackson is nearly 2 years old and he can hold it overnight for 10 hours, sometimes more. During the day, he is let out pretty much every 4hrs although if I'm gone for 8, he holds it. |

Max is 8 pounds and almost 5 months old. He can hold it the entire night, which is usually about 7 hours. Cooper who is 10 pounds and 2.5 yrs can hold it all night too but has developed this wonderful habit of ringing the potty bell at 3am almost every night. |
Ruby only woke us up one night when we brought her home. She holds it at night approx. 9 hours. I'm home during the day so sometimes it's every hour, so I hide the potty bell (i think she just wants potty treats) |
Andy just turned 2. He has held it all night from the age of 4 months. I am home all day and night with him. Daytime he seems to want out on a average of every 3 to 4 hours. If I am out he had gone as long as 6 hours daytime due to my sons wedding. |
They hold it all night. but they get out in the AM they really have to go and i have to move fast. They hate the rain and refuse to go outside...ugg it kills me. |

My girl gives the cutest low growl at the edge of the bed in the middle of the night if she has to go. We take her to the indoor potty and she doesn't mess around and get the business done and back to bed! |
Mabel and Darwin have never messed in their crates and have held "it" for up to nine hours at night. Mabel just turned 5 months and is not quite 3 pounds. Never seem that desperate in the morning when we go out for their walk either - do they make cast iron bladders for Yorkies?? BTW, we free feed and don't hold the water either! |
