well in my expeirence most breeders will claim their dogs are the best and they have the best puppies. most will tell you, oh my puppies will be tiny teacups.heres the deal be careful of lying. some will do anything to sell a puppy. stay away from these people.here in florida if you want a teacup you will pay big bucks for her$1,000 and up here. even a good pet quality yorkie will be $800 and upward.one question most people ask is how big are the parents. most will tell you 4 lbs.lol there hardly ever 4lbs. at this point you want to make sure you see the parents for size , temperment, and most importantly how they are being cared for. if you can ask about the puppies pedigree line that would be good too. if your breeder never had a pedigree done then there is now way they are reaserching the pups heritage. this is important for you and your breeder to know.along with the pedigree the parent dogs should of coarse be papered with the akc. your breeder should be able to show you the akc papers of the parents at any time. excuses means irrisponsiblity. no one wants a breeder thats just winging it. find out about genetic traits, vacinations, and ask if they are still in contact with other people that have bought puppies in the past. a good breeder trys to stay in touch with there customers ask if they have pictures from previous litters, if they do then your in luck. this will show what your yorkie will look like. you can also ask what veternarian they use. then call that veterarian and they can tell you alot and they wont lie. its very hard to pick the right breeder. hopefully this has helped but always keep in mind that when you buy a yorkie more then likly you are not getting what you expected. my little girl was supposed to be 5 lbs. she is 7 lbs my male was supposed to be around the same size he is 4 lbs. i have heard horror stories of parent dogs being perfect by breed standard and their babies growing up to be 20lb yorkies. so do your research and pick a reputable breeder. you can pay more money for a garenteed size but when signing the paper work make sure you read it. it will probrably say "size not garenteed." most only garentee their pups agianst hereditary defects that you can find in 72 hours. this is not good cause most defects dont come out until around 6 months of age. just make sure the contract isnt different then what is said. hopefully this helped if i think of more i will let you know

ask to see the mom & dad (if they have them on site). see if you can find a reputable breeder in your area so you can visit their home before any decision making. if possible, try and get references from past costumers. i've found the best breeders come by word of mouth. most importantly, do ALL your homework about Yorkies before you begin shopping. good luck!

How many years they are in breeding ? How many litters a year ? What kind of sale contract they have ? Are they going to dogshows ? What is the healh guarantee ? Also be prepared to answer as many questions as you asked . A reputable breeder will be very eager to see his pup going in the " perfect home " just like you may want to have the " perfect pup " from him or her . Personaly , I will never buy a puppy from a breeder who don't ask me questions.

You'll want to know how they test and screen their dams and sires- you don't want an unknowledgeable breeder breeding a yorkie with liver shunt or LP or any other genetic diseases. Ask what their health guarentee is- what it covers and how long? Have the puppies been socialized? Puppies need to be exposed to people, pets, and the sounds of everyday life. What age are they letting the puppies go? Opinions differ on this, but I think 12 weeks is the standard. I wouldn't get a puppy before this time, but that's just me. AKC registration is a must for me- they're the most strict on standards and record-keeping. Ask what their policy is on keeping in contact with owners of past litters. There will be times when you will need the expertise of your breeder, so just make sure they aren't going to take your money and run! How long have they been breeding yorkies? I think that's all for now. Just go with your gut feeling. If you don't feel comfortable with a certain breeder for any reason- go elsewhere! Just because the puppies are cute doesn't mean that they're healthy or well taken care of. If you get the name of a breeder, run it by us first. We have thousands of yorkie owners on the site, so there is a chance that we've either dealt with the breeder or heard something about him or her. Good luck!

Oh my my! Thank you so much for all your advice. This is really helpful. I am gonna start email bunches... of breeders. So I can start visiting them and make a decision. It's gonna be a big decision, so i am gonna have at least 3-4 months to decide whom I want to buy a yorkie from, and if I find a right breeder for me, I will wait for an available yorkie. I also want to see if a puppy will be potty trained. That is kinda a big thing.. because I always had outdoor dog growing up. If I think of it, it is sad.. but in Japan a lot of people keep their dogs outside. So I never worried about them getting potty trained. Anyway this is helpful. More suggestions are better so I will appreciate any additional suggestions and support.

[QUOTE=michiko]Oh my my! I also want to see if a puppy will be potty trained. Even if the puppy is potty train , it doesn't mean that he or she will know exactly where to go when at your home .
