| ![]() Many yorkie owners wait until after the first heat. You didn't say what your Yorkie's weight is, but if your vet thinks she is too small, then I would definitely listen to him or her.

| ![]() She is 7mo and 3 lb.so maybe that is to small to get spayed.I don't know if she will get much bigger.Breeder said 3 to 3 1/2 lb.She seems so small to go into heat. |

| ![]() Just keep an eagle eye on her! As little as you think she is for going into heat -- think how little she would be to carry pups! Don't want to risk her life! I agree that your vet was probably trying to wait til she was a little bigger. Most are reluctant to sedate under 3 pounds. She is also going into heat a little early. My girl had her first heat at 10 months. You can spay while they are in heat, but they usually charge you a little extra and I think it might be a little more risky as things are swollen. So, if no problem around other dogs, then waiting til after her heat to spay is probably best. But if you have a male in the house......I would probably ask the vet what he thinks about spaying right now. It is very difficult to keep them apart for that week of peak heat. I guess I had a full 2 weeks of misery trying to keep mine apart during her first heat. My male was very persistent and relentless. But it is crucial that she not be allowed to mate.
