| New Yorkie mommy--wanting advice Hello--I have just purchased my first little Yorkie puppy. I purchased a male 10 weeks old who is just a pure bundle of sweetness. He sits on my foot while I am doing the dishes--def. a mommas boy. My question is his hair seems very thin but is very slick, almost oily, and super straight--just thin. I have read thin hair is not good but then also that it is great and means nice slick long coat when grown. Just wanting advice. By the way my little man is very small for 10 weeks old. He is just 1 lb but is eating very well so do I have anything to worry about? He checked out great at the vet with no problems other than a slight runny nose but was clear so vet said it was ok. His hair is already about 2 inches in length and ears are standing up just great. Pottying is also going very well. I couldn't be a more proud parent. Just wanting your opinions on his thin slick hair and his tiny size. By the way HEllO and I love your site. |

| Hi and welcome to YT. Your little one sounds precious. In time with a good diet, his hair will come in. Hot Rod hair was/is very straight and smooth. It does seem to get slick much quicker than Maggie Mays. I have decided to keep him short because when it does grow any length, it tends to look scraggly. But with it cut short, his hair is soooo shiney and and clean looking. I would definitely look in the health and diet section for information on good foods for your little one. Hot Rod was 1.57 lbs when we got him at 15/16 weeks. I was afraid that I was going to break him. It took every bit of 5 months to break 2 lbs! He's now very robust at 4 1/2 - 5 lbs. Good luck with your little one!
