Small breed = another Biewer...they are a riot! Large breed = Giant Schnauzer...had a mini for 17 years, he was wonderful. |
For me it would be a chihuahua or English Bulldog. |
Before I got my yorkie, I was looking for a maltese. I've always wanted a white dog. But my bf showed me Chewie, and I totally fell in love with him. |
Bernese Mountain Dog. Hands down. |
after my first dog died I swore I'd never get another dog, until I met the lovliest little critters ever, April and Ripley. They made me realize I was capable of moving on so there is no other choice for me, just a Yorkie. All weekend I had to study and he snuggled his little butt right in beside me while I read. I took his little face and said you just don't know how much your mummy loves you. My friends would beat me with a very large stick if they saw how sappy I get when he gives me cuddles and snuggles |
If I wasn't getting a yorkie, I think I'd get a Cavalier King Charles. My son and I think they have the cutest faces and the sweetest "Precious Moments" eyes... For a big dog, if I had a HUGE fenced in yard, I think I'd get a collie or a golden lab. |
Definitely a poodle. I've always found them to be smart, easily housebroken, very gentle with everyone, extremely loyal pets, and obedient. Plus, I've also had a German Shepherd, and golden Lab with those same qualities so wouldn't mind either of those. |
For a small breed I would pick a papillon, I love their look and wonderful personalties!! I've always wanted a Cavalier as well but I'm afraid to get one do to their serious heart problems. Middle size breed, cocker spaniel. I will probably always have a cocker spaniel and a yorkie in my life. For a big dog, doberman hands down!! I love them. I would love to have another golden someday but I'm not sure I can deal with all that hair again. |
My favorites breeds: 1. Yorkies <33 (I have 3) 2. Siberian Husky 3. German Shepherd 4. Golden Retriever (I grew up with one, but I couldn't bring him to college with me :() 5. Chesapeake Bay Retriever 6. Cocker Spaniel 7. Dalmatian 8. Border Collie 9. Australian Shepherd 10. Newfoundland |

Personally, I consider having a husband and children redundant, so we don't have kids. ;) :) To answer the original post, for me, there was never a second choice. As cute as I found other breeds, the Yorkie was the dog for me. |
A THIRD Shi-Tzu Hi, I had two Shi-Tzus. I'm crazy about them, but wanted a new "baby". Boy did I get one bossy baby! My Opie runs the show. I'm soooo glad I got him.:animal36 |
1 Attachment(s) having recently adopted a bichon, i would have to say that is my choice. Poppy is just the most snuggliest dog ever, inspite of her 6 years of abuse before she came to live with me. |
I would have gotten a Bearded Collie, but they don't exicst here in Iceland. Yorkshire Terriers are my favorite breed, and the Bearded Collie, nothing else :D The Yorkies are my 1# breed because of their loyalty, Fido is so loyal and i can always believe in him, he has helped me so really much through much and hard depression, and always been there when i feel bad, i can always hug him and he licks my tears, the best dog ever ! I don't love the breed because of their size or cause they are cute, just because of their personality , after that the looks come, but the personality is number 1, 2 and 3 :) There are so many people who get a Yorkie cuz they are so ''little and cute'' and look ''like a doll'', i don't understand those people  They don't bark much (not my yorkie and my breeders, some of them bark but thats because of bad owners who don't raise them up enough), they have the softest fur ever, and i love brushing them , wrapping, showing and everything :) The Bearded Collie comes next because they are amazing dogs, they are also very loyal, good for many dog sports, is much like the yorkie but bigger and with different fur, i havent met many of those breed but those i have met are amazing ! :D Also i love the Rottweiler, sometimes i'm gonna have a Rottweiler, I want a dog who i can feel really safe with. |
Probaby an Afghan because they are so elegant looking. |
I have two yorkies and 2 maltese. I like them both.. but my next would be brussled griffon.. they are so cute too! |

I had Bernese Mountain Dogs in Germany. My husband wanted a German Shepard. Our house is too small for a big dog, wouldn't be fair. A co-worker has a Lhasa Apso and I really liked that breed. But then I saw Merlin and there was no question. We are very happy with him. |
If I couldn't have a yorkie, I would have a Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka or a Havanese. I have recently fallen in love with the Tibetan Mastiff, and hopefully someday I will have a bigger house and yard to be able to get one. |
great thread! Oh boy, where to begin!?!?!? Bull Terrier Great Dane Mastiff Boston Terrier Basset Hound Bloodhound Dachshund Scottish Deer Hound Newfoundland Brussels Griffin |
Next best thing I have a schoodle. He has the best temperment and is sooo smart. He has the body type of a schnauzer and the white curly hair of a poodle. Hes 16 lbs at 3 years old. and the best thing is that schnauzers abd poodles from what I hear are almost shed free and mine hardly ever sheds. and his coat hardly needs any grooming due to the medium wavy length and I don't think hes ever had a tangle or a matt. They are great dogs. If I didnt get a yorkie this time I would have went for another schnoodle or a schnauzer. |
i have a parade of dogs I have 3 chis, Cinnamon rules the house . She is my red brindle.Batista is my male a chocolate and white brindle, Then their is Peyton my long haired who looks like a very tiny collie. Then for my birthday my husband got me a maltese who is 6 months old very loveable and all baby. I have wanted a yorkie for a long time but because of the price I thought i would never get one. Then 2 weeks ago some one was giving one away he is 8 months old nuetered and in excellent health. A little larger than i may of wanted at first but he fits right in. He is 8.5lbs she gave me his papers and every thing. He was gotten for their children for all 3 of them begged for him he was to be their responibalty they did well the first week because he was only 8 weeks old. Were told repeatedly that he was leaving if they did not take over his care. She said the poor dog lived in his cage xcept to go potty. So that is how i aquired Gage very beautiful boy in deed. Since he and my maltese are with in a month of age of each other they are best buds. By the way my maltese is Gracie Shay. Sorry to ramble on but my family is complete I have all the breeds I have always wanted. So I have my own little parade of dogs Love each and every one for who they are. Mugwee1 |

I haven't gotten my pup yet, but I would someday love to have both a yorkie and a beagle! |

Cairn terrier for me :). |
I wanted a black pug before I got Poppy, or a french bulldog. Now I have Poppy I know I made the right choice. :) |
I love my Yorkie, but my 2nd choice would have to be a cocker spaniel. |
Hmmm, either a small shelter dog, chihuahua, a Tibetan terrier or a dachshund :) |
I had a beagle for 14 1/2 years. He was so good. Then I got my Yorkie. I didn't know if I wanted a Jack Russell or a Yorkie but I'm so glad I have my sweet baby boy Yorkie. He's 12 and has some health concerns but he is still mischievous (spelling?) and he's the love of my life. |

In the past I've had Great Danes, Dobermans, Rottweilers and a really nice Australian Shepherd. Granted I've enjoyed them all, but I really am partial to my Yorkie I have now. He fits in the limited space we have, can go almost everywhere with us, and has a very pleasing personality that makes him enjoyable to have around. I'd probably have still wound up with a yorkie no matter what. :littleang Beth and Taylor:animal36 |
