Crazy mean neighbor! Has this happened to you?

I"m sure he's had so many dogs poop in his yard he figures you're another one of those inconsiderate people. Dog pee does destroy lawns and I know I'm pretty sick of people letting their dog do their business on my lawn also. It's so disrespectful - that I think if I saw someone walking their dog and it came onto my lawn I'd be assuming they were just like all the rest...
Seriously, there's a lady on the next block with a big german shepard that would let him poop on my (nice) yard...he was on a leash too. Then she'd just up and walk away with him. After several times of that I finally ran out and said "here, (offering her a plastic grocery bag) take that with you." My hubby came out and said to her: "How'd you like it if I came and sh** on your front steps?" (I know crude, but really...think about it...what would be the difference? Which excrement would be the ruder of the two?)
Haven't seen her since. But she looked shocked at the time - like she thought I had some nerve. People are weird.

HAHA! Want to send hubby over to my parents house for a day? They have the same problem over there with dogs going all over their lawn- its VERY annoying.

I just read this and that is one nasty guy. But on the other side, I hate it when people walk on my lawn -- dogs or not. As easy as it is for people to sue for anything, all it takes is somebody tripping on a tree root or uneven spot and bam! You're tied up in court or your insurance company pays a settlement and hikes your rates. And really, kids should be taught to respect other people's property and not be running around on it without permission.

This doesn't excuse the man's language -- I would be very upset about that, too.

The old neighbors in my last subdivision were so hoity toity and persnickity about their grass they literally trimmed the edges on their knees with scissors!!! Neighborhood kids, including my own, were afraid to retrieve a stray ball from their yard.

Now I live in a wee house on a couple of acres, with a private school a few lots down. Kids will walk home from school & cut across my yard and I am thankful for it...thankful that these kids are not walking on the edge of the street (no sidewalks) where they could be easily hurt or abducted.

I hope to God I never become a miserable old person that values a lawn or a shrub more than children. Can you imagine...thinking on your deathbed...I was a complete jackass to children...but I kept a nice patch of grass???

Why is lawn and yard care so upsetting to others? Children should be taught to respect other people's property and their wishes.

I can also see both sides. Your little dog will leave a very little pile, and you clean up after your baby. You are a good pet owner. However, years ago, we had three neighbors with dogs, and I had only an indoor cat. Every time I mowed my lawn, I had to shovel poop from big dogs (or step in it). It was so frustrating. Also, one neighbor walked her dog up the street to the dam (where everyone walks dogs), and he would pee on our bush. Well, every other dog going by pee-ed on that bush too, and eventually we lost the bush. Well, we no longer have all those dogs in the neighborhood, and now I am the dog owner. I really try to respect other people's lawns. But, it is hard.

I can understand that the man might be upset because other people (not you) let their dogs poop on his lawn. But he is being unfair to think that you are one of those people, especially when you are carrying a bag for the poop. Maybe he was having a bad day. Kill him with kindness. Smile and wave when you go by and maybe he will see that you are not an irresponsible pet owner.

I never let my dogs go on anyone's private property, and I do not want anyone's dog going on my property. No. 1 Respect for other people's property. No. 2 You do not know what dog or other animal has used the same property. Has that dog had his shots? Is the wild animal sick?

Some people don't like dogs. (Shudder) Or children. I have seen many people go crazy over dogs or kids in their yards. Sad but true!!! So sorry about your mean neighbor, if you were my neighbor I would welcome your baby in my yard!!!!!!

I think I posted this thread in June/July? I am not sure..anyways I have found out many neighbors have also had the same reaction from him as well, apparently he does this to many people walking dogs by his house. I have since taken his reaction at the time with a grain of salt and moved on. I am obviously not the only one.

And.... in November their house was put up for sale and in early January I saw moving trucks and he has moved.

I am new and a little nervous at this but wanted to do my first post. I have had Yorkies since 1978 and LOVE dogs so don't think I don't understand ugly neighbors are such a pain. Still, I can't blame them for not wanting unsolicited dogs and/or possiblefeces and urine in their yard, though I don't understand it. I don't think owning my dog gives me the right to infringe on any of my neighbors' yards, sidewalks, etc., even with my little 5.3 lb. Tibbe who is cuter than anything! Many people just do not "get" dogs and think dog owners take liberties - and so many do. My older neighbors are especially grumpy about this but I try to figure maybe those poor people have something awful going on in their lives and maybe just one more little thing is too much. So, little Tibbe and I are the best of neighbors and I pick him up when I walk in front of some neighbors' houses and try not to think too badly of them. They smile more now that I have a pattern of doing this. They know Tibbe will never soil their lawn. I personally do not get the problem with a bit of poop on the grass but still try to understand and tolerate their sensibilities when their property or its environs involved. We're making friends that way!

When you invest a good deal of your life and hard earnings into a home and the expense of a nice yard (curb appeal/house value) you don't want big...or in the case of Yorkies, "little" brown spots, whatever diseases they bring with their waste (the children who live in the house probably play on THEIR lawn), etc on it. It doesn't mean you don't like dogs, doesn't mean you don't like children, other people, it means it's your investment and it is not the right of others to mistreat it.
If you invested in a nice car would you like it if someone ran a key down the side of it? Probably not. If that happened would you like someone to say, "oh they probably just don't like cars..." "you can always just paint over it"
If someone doesn't mind dog poo and pee on grass then let your animal do his/her business on your own lawn...don't bring it to another person's lawn.
All that being said if I saw a doggie bag was being carried by someone walking their dog, despite I wouldn't want their dog's feces bacteria on my lawn, if their dog did go and they immediately picked it up I wouldn't get too bent out of shape; however, I would if they did it daily, because clearly they have their dog's business down to a good time and they can let 'em go on their own lawn before they go for a walk.
But I was raised in a different time where - for example -- as a child if our ball went into someone's yard, you rang the bell and got permission to retrieve it. Those days are long gone...

I would probably smile and ask him how he is. Usually people are soft in the middle when you get through that hard shell. Otherwise it may escalate.
