| Teacup! Ok, I was watching some program about where the term teacup came from, tonight. they said that it is originated from Japan and they visited pet stores in Japan to find out about teacup puppies. They visited many different pet stores and they were full of BS! Some said that they know how to mate dogs at certain date to produce teacup. the others said that they keep mating runt of the litter to produce teacup. Some even said that they give mom a shot to stop milk production when puppies are about 4weeks and give them some gruel mixture to keep them barely alive, so puppies grow slowly till they sell them. The one that upset, no made me mad is that one of the store(famous for their teacup) have c-section on 2.5lb yorkies girl over and over again!!!! They said that one of their biggest money maker was this tiny yorkie(less than 2lb) and she already had 5 c-sections! She looked so miserable and sick. Her puppies sold for at least $30,000!!! They said that after 4th or 5th c-section, all puppies come out stillborn! Then, they send the mom to shelter! WTH! I just couldn't understand how they can get away with such animal cruelty? It is suppy and demand. There are just too many people think having teacup puppy is like having desigher handbag, and they brag about how small their puppy is! They are willing to pay rediculous amount of money to have 2lb 3lb full grown puppies. I really think that if people stop wanting teacup puppies, then these people who sell teacup puppies won't produce them any more. I'm sorry if I sounded complaining, I'm just frustrated...

| Don't worry, you're not complaining! I'm very shocked at this and I can understand your frustration. It is really terrible how these people treat their animals. Sad to say (and probably not pc), Asians show very little respect for animal and even human life. My brother is in Hong Kong at the moment and he is outraged by the sick pets in the pet stores! These pets are so sick and worried and unhappy - I can't believe some people. And then, there are the whale killings, the eating of human fetuses, the skinning of live animals... I'm getting nauseous. Personally, I will never understand the desire to have such a small and sickly dog. I know a lot of the small ones are healthy, but if you only breed for size, the other qualities will get left behind. Such as temperament, coat quality, coat colour. And hereditary diseases are passed along because no testing is done. I love dogs and I absolutely adore yorkies, but I want them to be dogs. They should run around and behave like dogs, not dolls! If you don't want a dog, don't buy one. If you want a cute little thing to stick in your purse, buy a doll. JMHO

| Ugh...that is disgusting. Its unfortunate that breeding practices like that exist all around the world, and somehow, they are always legal.

Asians eating human fetuses..you really believe that?! Actually no I believed it too haha. Fetus Soup, Anyone? The Myth Of Chinese Baby Soup | Food Still disgusting, though, right? Asian countries have a lot of weird "trends." There's a place, I think called Modern Toilet, where people go to eat out of a toilet. Their food literally looks like urine and feces. Disgusting. I'm Asian and I will never understand things like that. To be back on topic.. I always want to punch a person in the face when they insist that my Biggie is a teacup, and they are surprised to hear that I want him to grow to at least be 5lbs. Some people will do anything to get money. I always see these sickly looking "MICRO-TCUP" pups with huge heads being sold for nearly $10,000. I can only imagine the vet bill for such a pup. They don't even look like puppies sometimes...just rats with long hair. See pic! This yorkie-colored thing is going for almost $5000. Last edited by SamanthaKim; 08-28-2010 at 12:47 PM. | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | That poor little girl looks so unhealthy and sad. Her eyes look enormous in relation to her head. Sorry- I love my big bruiser boy and his normal sized sister.

| OP: Do you remember the name of that program? You mentioned it was about pet stores in Japan. I'm kind of interested in seeing it, because I used to live in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if there were people there willing to pay that much for a dog...it's a place where it is not unheard of to see a cantaloupe priced at as much as $120. |
