Does anyone know anything about Cadillac Kennels in MO?

Well first off there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie and if they are advertising that you need to run away quickly. When getting a puppy you need to visit where the puppies are being raised and the conditions the parents are living in, you need to make sure the parents have had testing done and are free of LP, you also need to make sure they don't have many litters at one time and are not breeding mixed breeds as well as many other types at the same time.

I was always told not to buy from anywhere that says kennels. Just my opinion.

Well some of the things that would say puppy mill to me are ones that have more then two litters at a time, sell to pet stores, there dogs are not well taken care of are very dirty, keep there dogs in cages all the time in out buildings, don't let you come to there house to see the parent dogs or where the puppies are growing up, has multiple breeds of dogs that they are breeding and well as mixing breeds, uses the words teacup micro and such, doesn't follow the YTCA standards, sells sick puppies, is in it for the money, not giving there dogs the proper care, not breeding to standard and I'm sure there are some I missed.

I understand that but who is responsible for making up the puppy mill list and maintaining it? Is the list just made up by someone with a computer and an ax to grind, are there any sanctioned guidelines and so on. Anyone can make up a list and post it on the internet.

The "puppy mill list" you might be referring to is the USDA list of breeders. To be on the list, they have to be breeding and caring for a large number of dogs. I don't know off the top of my head what that exact number is, but it's more than one would be able to care for properly by themself. As in, they need hired help just to feed their dogs.

I wouldn't buy from this place for a lot of the above mentioned reasons but I sure hate that Missouri has such a bad rep. I noticed on the list that Kansas and Oklahoma and many other states seem to have as many but you don't seem to hear as much about them. I am proud though that our state has been cracking down on puppy mills more and more lately.

Yea, if a breeder is on the USDA list then you def want to run far & hard away from them as they are No Good.

More than I thought there would be. They're not the only cause of bad breeding and sick dogs. People breeding pets without doing research are just as bad. Too many puppies at the shelters with no homes.

I don't think there is an actual list of puppy mills.

We’ll never stop the really horrible treatment of dogs if some of you can’t understand the differences in commercial breeders.

I agree. When we were younger we had a breeder whom we got our little Poms from. She had a "Kennel" it was a 20x30 heated and airconditioned building. She had 4 breeder females and one male. Each had a seperate penned off area with nice bedding and a doggy door that led to a huge play area for them that was fenced with chain link on top to keep preditors out. When we got our babies they were almost completely house broken and socialized. I would never ever have clasified her as a puppy mill but I am sure because she had a "kennel" lots would of. She was also a breeder who showed her dogs and championed many.

At one time, most of the show breeders had the word "kennel" in the names, it was a prestigious word. I don't think you should judge a breeder by their name, and there are many great breeders who have semi large scale facilities, you have to look at the "goal" of the breeding, is it simply to add money to their pocket, or is it to improve the breed?
