Question about sleeping with a yorkie

Sofia is 2.5Lbs and she sleeps with us. She has stairs so if she needs to go she can get down by herself. She uses pads.

Rosie sleeps with us. She has a small cat bed she likes to sleep in on the bed. I feel more comfortable with that because it is unlikely she will be smothered. We also do that because my husband has MS and sometimes has leg tremors. So she sleeps on my side, in her bed.

She doesn't leave her bed until we wake up. It's odd but it's like she knows ! This morning she ran up to my husband's pillow when he went into the shower and slipped between the mattress and pillow. I rescued her right away but she ran back to her bed because it confirmed to her that the top of the bed was full of hazards! LOL

Wall-e started sleeping with us at 5 months when it got cold at night and he would refuse to sleep in his bed or even a blanket. I'd find him curled up in a ball huddled against a wall away from his bed and blanket. So we put him in bed and he's been sleeping under our covers ever since. I was worried about squishing him too, but we never have. And he knows to wake us up if he has to go.

Bella has slept with me from the day we brought her home at just 1 pound. I do wake up in a panic every now and again if I don't 'feel' her laying right next to me as she usually does. But we have had no problem with it, and will probably always do it. She is 3 pounds at 20.5 weeks, pretty small, and haven't lost her yet. LOL

Milo is 17 weeks old so he sleeps in a crate in my bedroom. He wakes me up around 6:30 to go to the bathroom. After I take him outside to do his business I let him sleep next to me for 2 hours until I wake up. I would love to have him sleep with me all night but I don't trust him to pee on the bed (which he has done in the evening before bed!) He is already 4.5 pounds and I am very aware of him snuggling next to me. I love it.

My two are super tiny....2.5 and 2.7...At first I made them sleep in their crate but I couldn't stand looking at those sad eyes when I put them to bed They both sleep with my husband and I now...we are very fidgety also but they move if they need to. I was so afraid at first but you really do 'know that they are there'. They usually lick my face when they need to go out. Also they have bells on their collars so I know every move they make! I did purchase some doggy stairs just in case and they fly up them when its time for bed. I could never go back to the way it was before...I love snuggling with them now!

our babies sleep with us also, I have two little beds that are flat with a roll edge, they fit above our pillows. I have little 2'x2' crocheted blankets that they cover up with. I did pin a 6" plastic grid fence around the end of the bed that faces out for our new puppy so he cannot fall out of bed. Our dogs came home at 9 weeks and none have ever went in the bed. I do leave the collar with bell on Baby Gibbs so he will wake me up if he gets up, in 3 weeks I have only had to take him out 3 times during the night. I also have a chest at the end of bed with steps down so they can get up and down easily. My hubbies Toy Fox Terrier likes to snuggle in between the sheets for 10-15 minutes before she goes up to her bed to sleep. Gibbs does not like being under the covers, wants his head out all the time! He just might miss something.

Fynnlie is just under 2lbs. He sleeps IN his bed, ON my bed. It's right beside my pillow and he's all cuddled up in his bed, with the pillows, holding him in to be ON the safe side. He's 11 weeks old and he's been with me since he came home at 10 weeks!

if you are too worried, how about a crate by the side of your bed?That way your pup knows you are near, and will hopefully sleep better.

Ditto for my J Gatsby, I could have written your message exactly, however, Ms Daisy also sleeps on the bed and there was no need the crate pad.

Of course the major concerns of this age old topic are 1) Will you squish your Yorkie? and 2) If your Yorkie falls off the bed, will it be OK, and of course, how to avoid falling in the first place.

On the first item, none of our Yorkies have ever been an issue. They sleep in the valley of the giants (Me and the GF). They sleep in areas where they will not get smacked in case of a roll over, and they are a lot more durable than you might imagine, having dog strength. If you bump them too often, they will move out of the way, they are not infants.

The second concern is more critical. For that we take active and passive measures. In addition to the doggy steps, the Yorkies MUST be in the middle of the humans, who get the edges of the bed... which is great if you dont like touching the other person in your bed while sleeping (dont understand how anyone could get any sleep doing that!). Second, we bought large and fluffy full size dog beds and use one on each side of the bed, just in case. There was only once when it was needed as far as I know.
