Nursing Mom Question ... Hi this is my first litter for Brooklyn - and her puppies are 1 month, 1 week old (5 weeks total) and she won't let them nurse as much - she's got sores on her nipples from there teeth (looks painful) - and isn't it too early to stop nursing them? I am trying baby cereal - when do I start puppy food ? I'm so new to this - any suggestions? Please help - Katie & Brooklyn

Not sure about the baby cereal thing...I would recommend the puppy food you plan to feed them, some artificial doggy milk and water in the blender to make 'puppy mush' for them...I have always been under the impression that by 5 weeks, they should be pretty close to completely weaned.

I don't think it's too early to start weaning them. Especially if mom is having trouble. Good luck!

| They should be introduced to puppy food at this age. Just add some water to their puppy food until softened. If they have teeth they can eat. She isn't going to them as much as she is weaning them, so you really need to get them on puppy food, starting today.... Good luck let us know how they are doing....

I think you can start feeding them puppy mix with wet food.

At this age I give my puppies goat milk and puppy canned food mixed with a little bit of water. They love it warmed up too. You can also use a milk replacer for puppies from a vet or pet store. All of these posts sound good. Just be sure your puppies have something to drink too.
