| Large size yorkie wanted Three weeks ago, I had to put down my beloved 16 year old and diabetic yorkie named Pogi. He was the love of my life and I am completely heartbroken by his demise. I miss him so much and by no means looking to replace him. You could never replace a loved one, but I would love another yorkie that looks similar to him. He was 15 pounds and gorgeous. Does anyone know where I can get a bigger yorkie around that size? How do you know as a pup if they're going to get big or just the standard size? Pogi's parents were both tiny. His mom was a purebred 9 pound silky and his dad was purebred 7 pound yorkie. His pic is below. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your beloved Pogi. One way to look at it is that that your not replacing your love for him; your just opening your heart to love more. They say that you can estimate their adult weight by tripling the 8 week and doubling the 12 week but I have seen that go so far off. Sometimes its hard to tell how big they will ultimately get. If the parents have been bred before you could ask how big the pups in the previous litters were and find out how they were charting. That may help. Good luck in your search!

| I am so sorry for your loss. We had to put one of our dog's to sleep a couple of weeks ago. While it was so incredibly difficult (he was 17+ years and a larger, 60+ pound mutt), we adopted another dog the next weekend and it really helped us move forward. Anyway, I know that silkies are generally larger, but I don't think there is any real way to tell. When I adopted Vinnie, he was a mere 7 pounds. He was really underweight though, and today he's about 14 pounds (sturdy, not overweight). I adopted him when he was about 2 and I don't think there was any real way to know how big he was going to be. One good thing to do would be to adopt an adult dog from a rescue. If the adult is full-grown, you'll know if he/she is going to be a larger dog. Plus, you'll help save a dog who needs a home!

| I'm so sorry you have lost your loved one, Pogi. They are just like children, you can"t compare one to the other. I hope you find what you are looking for. Have you looked at yorkie rescues?

| I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. From your description, I think your baby Pogi was actually a mixed breed dog. Regardless, he was gorgeous. That's a wonderful picture of a very happy boy. Yorkies do grow to be a bigger sized. Some grow up big, and others are larger puppies that grow to a larger size.

| So sorry for your loss. I think a rescue would be a good place to look. I like a bigger yorkie too. My Reggie is about 12 lbs. and I got him at a shelter. With a adult dog you would then know the size. Good luck

| Pogi was adorable. He reminds me alot of my Jackson, who is also 15lbs. I am so sorry for your loss. He sounded like a total sweetheart. I, too, am looking for a second larger yorkie and what I've found... there's a ton that show up in rescue. Also, alot of times breeders will get oversized pups. Jackson was 5lbs at 8 weeks old, and I think anyone could have guessed he'd get bigger! lol. So I think once you start looking at pups, look for 4-5lb babies at 8-12 weeks old. It's not a guarantee of course. Petfinder.com is a great source. Heres a few in NC. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16908162 http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17087854 http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16937369 http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17085909

| I am so sorry about your loss... I would definitely suggest that you check petfinder or rescues in your area. I would also suggest getting an adult yorkie so you know how big they will be full grown. Good luck!
