| For those looking for a Yorkie Please check rescues, shelters and Petfinder before going to a breeder. I know it's 'the thing' to find a puppy online and have it shipped across the country but come on...save your money and save a soul! I am looking at Petfinder right now and there are currently 1,492 Yorkies and Yorkie mixes listed. That is an enormous number and the stories are sad...retired breeders who no longer make money for their owner so they are dumped at the shelter, puppies that grew too big, rescued puppies from puppy mills, seniors who aren't wanted because of failing health, those that couldn't be house trained or a human baby came along...the excuses go on and on. You know what an excuse is don't you? It's a lie wrapped up in reason. There are 1,492 beautiful Yorkies who need homes...that is 1,492 beauties, cuties, seniors, retired breeders, lost souls who were never claimed, puppies and those who are just looking for a warm bed, soft lap and loving home. Please take a look there first...you might just find your new best friend. |

| Before I got Beamer I checked with the local Yorkie rescue group. I also checked the Humane Society but all they had were pit bulls, plus the local animal shelter had had some outbreaks of parvo. I am still willing to take in a rescue yorkie.

| I checked with rescues, and was sent an adoption form to fill out for a little yorkie girl from Ontario named Priscilla, then was told that they don't ship. For anyone living in Urban areas, I would suggest checking rescues as well.

| I would love to rescue, but my SPCA won't adopt out dogs to people who live in condos In my experience the employees at my SPCA have always been snotty and mean....even when I tried to make a donation

| I too have found that rescues are very very critical in their selections. I suppose they should be, but lots of dogs could be placed in homes that are rejected. I know that I would be rejected because I travel alot. Already have been. People want to help these dogs, they just can't. Just my two cents. |

| Is there a place that list rescues that are close to me? I live in Arkansas and I am not sure there is one around here? I know we have the Humane Society. Does anyone know? I know a friend who is looking for a yorkie right now. She has one and would like another.

| I think that rescues are very selective because they want to find these babies their "forever" homes. A lot of people (not all, but many) give up their pets because they weren't a good match in the first place or had unrealistic expectations of what it means to own a pet. I got both of my babies from rescues listed on petfinder.com. One is a yorkie mix and the other is a full yorkie.
