If this truly is a serious question.. then please USE YOUR BRAIN and LISTEN to what every one has to say about this!! NO dog that small should be bred... a dog that was rescued shouldnt be bred.. your male shouldnt be bred.. please do us and the already very over populated world a huge favor and neuter your dog and talk the so called friend of yours into doing the same thing. This whole situation is just wrong!! :(

I don't know anything about breeding and it sounds like you know less than I do so this should answer all of your questions about breeding your boy.

what possible reason would you want to participate in bringing more possibly genetically unhealthly puppies into the world when there are so many shelter dogs waiting for homes? And especially since you say the girl is a rescue, why would you take part in something like this? I hope that the owner of this little girl and you open your eyes to the "what if's" because that is all you have to go by.

Plain and simple...if YOU love the breed, if you LOVE animals...you will not allow your male to be bred to a 3 pound rescue...you can say you are a dog lover and care about them or you can actually DO IT.

What difference does it make why she wants to breed? She has a rescue, no papers, no chance of "bettering the breed" which is usually why reputable breeders breed. Obviously this person wants to breed for the money. Worst reason in the world. The pups will not be able to be registered (at least with the AKC) The female is way too small to be bred, so the owner is willing to put her dog's life in danger in hopes of making a few bucks? Disgusting!.

There are too many pups in the shelters and pounds. Why participate in adding to the population? If you allow your dog to be bred with hers you are adding to the problem.:mad:

a year ago this month i was given the the absolute answer to this question.
My baby Gatsby ended up with anemia and i had to spend 700 dollars on his transfusion.while i was driving home from the pet hospital i got a frantic call from my cousin whos small dog(12 pounds) had been forced to mate with with a large dog (24 pounds) and she was haveing puppies 4 puppies had been born and she was shaking really bad and my cousin who was 14 was really scared when i got there a fifth puppy had been born and baby had stopped shaking i carefully checked to make sure the puppies wear alive then i put them in one crate and baby in another and drove back to the emergency pet hospital wear they told me she had likely had a seizure because the puppies wear so big she had went into shock they did not know why she recovered and was able to deliver the last puppies so after another 100 dollars i took her home and told them to call me with any more problems.
a week later i get another call my cousin telling me that her dad was tired of the puppies and had took mom and the puppies and dumped them in a box in a parking lot It was raining that night. so when i got there the puppies wear socked and i could not find baby i put the puppies in my car and had my best friend take them to the emergency vet while i wandered around in the rain calling for baby who must have been looking for a dry place to put her puppies when i found her she was shaking and wet and crying my friend came back and took baby to the vet
they wear a week old and already the five puppies weighed half as much as she did i had to hand nurse 2 puppies because she did not have milk for all five
the puppies ended up with respiratory infections and wear very sick they wear covered in fleas and always seemed to be hungry by 2 weeks they outweighed mom and she began losing weight.
in the end mom and puppies turned out okay i found homes for everyone mom and three of the pups wear adopted by the same family so they get to see each other all the time. the last pup is not the biggest and she belongs to my best friend.
one of the puppies i kept because she is nearly completely blind and she is distrustful of people she is also one of the pups i hand nursed. mom is now spyed so she never has to go through this again.
i just want you to think about all this before you breed with this little girl

Forget her ill conceived reasons for wanting to breed. What are yours? A few extra bucks? Or bettering the breed?

You've been on this site long enough to know that just having "papers" doesn't mean squat when it comes to whether or not you have a dog that should be part of a breeding program.

If I remember correctly, your boy is young. You still have no idea whether or not he is considered an excellent example of the breed. There are enough poorly bred Yorkies being dumped every day. No need to add more. Have you shown him to get approval for your breeding intentions?

Do you know the health history of his lineage? Any incidents of congenital diseases anywhere along the line? Just because your boy may be healthy doesn't rule out that he could be carrying a recessive gene for something devastating.

Are you ready, willing and able to assume the financial risk of him throwing a sick pup?

Are you aware that just because he's small, he could throw a large pup and potentially cause fatal consequences for the bitch?

Has he been thoroughly screened and graded for hip and leg integrity?

If you are seriously thinking about breeding, these are just a few of the absolute minimum things you should be looking in to.

Any owner who is truly interested in bettering the breed would NEVER allow their dog to breed with just anyone. Their reputation and future of their breeding program is on the line with every pup thrown.


Oh, and for the record- maybe people should put in a little more thought before having children. If they did, maybe I'd have fewer drug addicted, abused and abandoned kids to deal with in my line of work.

Ok I didn't read the whole thread but all I have to say is you have got to be kidding me!

I was approached a couple days ago when a friend of the family saw my little yorkie and said she had a friend that has a girl yorkie that is like 3 pounds and she was to breed her but she was looking for a small boy yorkie to breed her with. She asked if I would be interested and I told her yes but I want to know more about it because I am clueless when it comes to this stuff so please answer some questions I have.

How old do they have to be before the boys can start producing?

After their testes drop, but don't let the AKC know anything about this, they have "dumb" rules. :)


As a boy owner obviously the girl yorkie owner would make more money off the babies than me, how much profit would she make over me?

Glad you are thinking about money here, wouldn't want you to not make a profit off your pet. Think of all the cute stuff you bought and all the money spent, it's time for some payoff. :)


Is there a certian time that you let them mate? Is there any precautions I need to take before letting this happen?
I'm no breeder, but I think it's important to create a mood, and best time is after a steak candlight dinner. Make sure he shows up with treats and flowers. :)

Your little boy will not longer be your little boy after this happens; you will be the last thing on his mind, but think of the the bucks you can make! :) Hope he doesn't get any STD's, he can get them even if this it the first time for both.

One more thing. You are the stud owner, so the female will be brought to your home for the breeding and will remain there until the complete breeding is accomplished. A minimum of two breedings on two seperate days with a day inbetween. You will have to conduct the breeding, so it is best to know how to do this properly. Hands on is the only way to conduct the breeding for both of their safety. You'll need two sets of hands. One to guide the boy and the other to hold the girl.
