Love 300 for a yorkie???

Ok so I was reading another post and it got me thinking..more like hoping my best friend did not get ripped off..first of all she just got a yorkie puppy..a couple days ago so excited that now we have playmates.. But heres the thing that bothers me.....she got it off the internet for 300 dollars..AND..ontop of that I asked her if she went to their house..she said no they met somewhere and she looked at the puppys...that seems a little odd to me..when I asked why she said well it was closer for both of us to meet up in the middle...but I still think she should have went and saw the living conditions. Not that it is any of my business but it sounds fishy to me and I dont want her to have gotten ripped off ya know? Or the lil guy be really sick...She has two days to take the dog to a vet and get checked and ACA papers....dunno if those are legit or not... What do you think?

Well usually the breeder provides you with the registration papers when you purchase your pup because they would have the creditations to the pups parents and blood lines.

Sounds fishy, there may be someone out there who just had all their Yorkie pups stolen in a break in.

If the pup is healthy and they are both happy, I say good for her.

Yorkie pups in England are anywhere between £300-£500 usually but I understand in America they can be more.
I too think she should have gone and seen the living conditions so she knows where this pup was raised.
Is it too late for her to request a visit?

Love $300 Yorkie

Hi there,

I'm a little torn on what to say in regards to the $300 puppy your friend got. See, my husband and I spent precisely that this past weekend on ours. We did MEET somewhere beforehand, however because he lived on farmland he met us at a gas station then we drove to his home. I have read NEVER to meet somewhere and get a dog without going to the breeders home first. It's true that you don't know what the living conditions are until you see it first hand.

Our little Piper is doing great. We took her to the vet immediately, 12 hours after getting her. She is healthy, except she has common puppy worms. I haven't seen any in her stool but the vet says they are there so she is on medicine for them. Other dogs I have adopted from shelters in the past have had them too. So, I don't think that reflects poorly on the breeder.

Our breeder was very patient, gave us tips, answered questions, and let us know to call him if we ever had any issues. She has a health guarantee, CKC, and we got her shot records. Obviously, we know where he lives which helps if anything does go crazy. He had a lot of great ratings on the internet from past purchasers and it included some of their email addresses. If I wanted to, I could have contacted them to see how their dogs were doing now.

There were NO crates, kennels, etc. in his home or on his property. His pups roamed his home and his fenced yard freely and said since our little girl was the last...she had been sleeping with him every night. It must be true because she does enjoy sleeping with us.

Anyway, I would be somewhat concerned since she never went to the breeders home. Unfortunately, that's why one should do lots of research before buying a pup. I wouldn't say price is such a big deal as they can be as expensive as $3500! Sorry, but we can't afford that nor would we ever pay that much. But, the fact she didn't go to the breeders home and met him/her is alarming to me. Hopefully everything checks out at the vet. Let us know!

I understand how it would make you feel uneasy a pup going for that price as it dosnt seem too common over there.
If its not too late to arrange a visit she really should go.

Make sure your friend has the puppy vet checked. A price that low, tells me no testing was preformed on the adults. Not to mention the ACA, and the meeting in the middle. Sounds like another BYB!

Those type of breeders are known as the "exit kings and queens" because they offer to meet you on the highway rather than letting you see where the puppies come from. It's a huge red flag.

"Bargain" puppies usually cost a fortune in vet bills over time and can bring lots of heartbreak.

They probably met her away from home because they had something to hide. Perhaps it is a "puppy mill" puppy. Did she tell you the name of the breeder?

I would also recommend that she searches the name of the breeder in Google to see if anything bad comes up.

If it were me, I would not let my pup play with hers until the dog is certified healthy from a vet. If this poor pup came from a mill it could have all kinds of issues that might be easily spread to your dog.

I am concerned that she did not go see the condition either but not about the amount.
I know of several breeders here locally in Florida and Georgia that have had to lower their prices because people just do not have that kind of money anymore.
I paid 400 for mine and they are worth it. They came with 2 sets of shots, health gurentee, puppy pack and their AKC registration.
She had orginally asked more for them but had lowered her price because she would rather they were in a loving home for less then just waiting.
She cares more about the welfare of the dog and knows that they do best when they bond to their owners early. She let them go around 12 weeks.

I hope it all works out.

I just realized that you live in Missouri. Did you know that Missouri is nicknamed the Puppymill Capital of the US? You can bet your friend's puppy came from one of the Missouri mills. A couple hundred dollars is the going rate for puppymill puppies. Of course, most end up in high end pet stores around the country with price tags well over $1,000.
