| URGENT! Anyone live in Austin, TX? Does anyone live in Austin? One Yorkie & one aged Maltese have been abandoned by their owner- a Katrina victim- at the Austin TX shelter.

| Update! here are pictures of the 2. These girls survived Katrina and the floods alone together, were rescued from their house together and their newly located owner has just surrendered them to the Austin Humane Society-which may be a kill shelter! The maltese is 14 and these 2 should be kept together after all they've been through. Someone is interested in the Yorkie, but not the Maltese! Will anyone help keep these girls together and love them? Anyone in or near Austin? I'm a StealthVolunteer and know that we just spoke with the owner minutes ago! Help!

| That's heartbreaking for those little doggies. Their hearts must be broken. It will be especially hard on the 14 year old. I don't care. If I had to pitch a tent in the woods, I wouldn't give up my baby.

| heartbreaking, I have a poker pal there, but he has a Boxer puppy and that would scare them to death, but I know he was looking for an older Yorkie....I'll ask...if he knows someone who can take both

Perhaps we could railroad them to a member here if anyone will agree to take both.

| The Austin Humane Society http://www.austinhumanesociety.org/index.htm The phone number is 512-837-7985. The dogs' #s are: AHS#17621 - "Shayna" - 5 yr-old Yorkie AHS#17622 - "Shantelle" - 14 yr-old Maltese with cataracts Because of the special circumstances, the Humane Society was going to contact the owners to get the release for adoption. Once they get it, they would like to place them together, although they have had interest already from several people in adopting the Yorkie. I am concerned about the older being adopted. God bless anyone who will take them both. Those two survived together and have to stay together FOREVER. The oldest one may not be completely blind -- although, with cataracts, she will become blind. Because of this, she must be adopted out with her companion. She is probably accustomed to follow the other one and the other one is used to being her guide. It will be stressful enough for the bad-sighted little girl to find herself in new surroundings -- she needs the confidence and the eyes of Shayna to help her learn how to move in her new setting. The fact that Shantelle is 14 emphasizes that it would be cruel to separate the two at this advanced age. Who knows: maybe Shayna has an invisible disability as well and need the comfort of Shantelle next to her. This is a sad story -- the ending should be exceptionally happy.

| I have spoken with a friend of mine who works with animal rescue in Austin and she tells me that the Austin Animal Shelter is a no kill shelter, so that worry is allayed. I have asked her to query her animal rescue contacts for anyone that might be able to adopt these dogs as a pair.
