I am so gald you took in the little fella, its nice to know good people still around, i hope if my boys ever get lost heyfind a nice lady like you, but hope they dont snap. My one boy was microchiped 2x by mistake, and the other ones are not, I guess i should get them done, but i understand that not every shelter has the reader, what if you have avid and they have a home again reader, do they have a universal reader now? I also struggle with collar no collar, my guys both wear a harness my new guy I keep it on all the time he doesnt mind my other guy hates it on unless he is on a walk,, and i hate to admit it but I hate the clank clank noise all day from teh tag on his harness, so his tag with our number on it is on his leash prob not the best idea, I always take my dogs to the groomer once a month and get a bath once a week, but often the bath the week of the grroming is streched out because i worry they get a bath to often,, I always tell them dont run away today someone will think you are homeless and not even look for me. |

Keokis Mom. That's what I use! The break away cat collar :) it takes very little force for it to come off. Plus you always know where they are with that little jingle bell. I also used to keep a tag on the harness as well. On the d ring. It never got in the way. But I switched to the cat collars. (for the tag, not for the leash. I only use a harness for walking Missy) |
Thank you so much- I am going to buy a cat collar tomorrow with tags and I will keep the harness for walking with a tag on that as well. Just to be on the safe side i think you are right- I would feel better with a cat collar on him all day :) |
His condition could very well be result of being alone and on the run for a while longer than you may have first thought. Please try to find his family first. I had one of my Show dogs run away once, without a collar, it was the "art work" of my brother in law, who adores the dogs but is so distracted. I am so glad my neighbor knew my dog and the and the animal officer who picked him up , 3 blocks away from my home , when another neighbor saw him "flirting" with every pretty girl who passed on a BUSY street ! This was years ago when we first bought this house and before we had puppy proofed our yard and driveway entrance and side entrance... You can be right and he may have had a bad family, but also he may have a family that may be looking for him ... I am forever grateful to my neighbor !!! FOREVER !!!! I am glad to see in the posts here that other people share the same thoughts i had at first ... that maybe he is shaggi from being out so long ! Good luck anyways ! XOXO |
Bless you for taking this little guy into your loving home where he is now safe. I hope you find his owners. You are his angel on earth. |
4 Attachment(s) So I got home tonight and gave him a bath. He had a ton of small sticks in his fur along with a lot of other stuff. He was not as matted as I thought, but he does have quite a few still on his chest that I haven't been able to get out yet. He is a little sweetheart and very timid. I think I gained his trust by giving him treats. I made him come to me and take them out of my hand. He is now following me around. One issue... he is lifting his leg on anything and everything. Does anyone know who sells bellybands on here? We are definitely going to need some asap if we can't find his owner. He had a brushing and a good bath and is now laying in my lap. He is a whole 3.7 lbs. He does not feel too skinny, but ate food out of my hands like he was starving. His teeth are disgusting... They are all yellow and his little tongue often sticks out. Here are some pictures... |
dont worry i can one million percent guaranty you that Michelle will do EVERYTHING in her power to do whats best for this baby |

I also posted an ad on my local CL tonight. I was vague about what type of dog because I do not want just anyone claiming him. I requested pictures as well. We will be getting up early tomorrow morning to get him scanned and pick up some belly bands :) |

PLEASE don't waste your money on any belly bands from PetSmart/PetCo. I bought one in a pinch and it was a waste of $16.99. The only kind I've seen at those stores are one size fits all for small breeds, and have elastic all the way around. Our furbutts are smarter than we think, and can easily take those off. Trust me on this. Kaji sometimes acts like he isn't the brightest bulb in the pack, but the belly band with the elastic was super easy for him to take off. It didn't last two seconds on him. Anything you buy from a YT vendor will not only be cheaper, but better fit and quality. I'm serious when I tell you you're better off tying an over sized tube sock around his midsection. In fact, I have one that you could have for this little guy. It is used, washed and the most adjustable one I have. PM me his size so I can make sure this one will fit him, and I'll send it to you tomorrow.... which is today. (I can't sleep) I have three, and since Kaji kicked the marking habit, I only use them when we travel or visit new people that have pets. I can live with 2. :) |
