Senior Yorkie Talker | Bow Frustration It seems no matter what I do, I can not put a bow in Celine's hair. I have read and watched Youtube video's and it looks so easy! I have the Hemostats and I try almost daily to put one in. Her hair on top is long enough but it either looks crooked and stupid or she has it out when I am not looking. I have seen dogs come out of groomers and they have short hair and can still master it. I asked Petsmart when I saw a small puppy come out with a cute little bow. It doesn't even need to be in the form of a top knot because I am not sure her hair is thick enough. Any advice?

| My Lizzy has a bow challenged owner, too. I fiddle with the bow so much trying to get it to look right or in tight enough that Lizzy loses all patience with me.

| Keep trying, practice, practice, practice, it'll work out. Also do you place the hair in a rubberband first to secure it and then add the bow? |

Here is what I did...start with good small grooming bands. Imagine an imaginary line from the outside corner of their eyes and go straight back as if to meet up with ear. You dont have to gather fur all of the way back to the ear, but about 1/2-3/4..whichever works best on your yorkie. Gather hair loosely between your fingers and put the band on. A good band, you wont have to twist like a little girls pony tail...just sticking it on should hold--if not, the band may be too loose and try a smaller size. It takes practice....the best way for me was during comb time & when the dog is most relaxed. Practice makes perfect. If the band is too big or too loose, its gonna fall out. But-with that said, you also dont want it too tight so it doesnt pull too much on their fur. p.s. what also helps if your dog has thin fur and wont stay in a small band, when you pull the fur up, I just fold the fur backward to double the thickness....does that make sense???

| Whatever you do...when you put in a topknot, make sure you dog can close its eyes hehe. I did it too tight once--my dog looked wide-eyed like she just had a facelife. It took me about 15 minutes to realize she couldnt blink |

I dont like the idea of a barrette clip because its a dangerous choking hazzard or could cause other problems if they happen to swallow it. Ouch!! if you want to just do pictures ...you could try barrettes only for pics and take it out.

| Im sorry I'm rambling but I also thought of something else that helps. Sometimes I use two bands. Put on the first one, and then the second--separately. Make sure one is overlapping the other...it helps hold the first band in place and bows stay in longer. |

| This is the topknot tutorial I share with my bow customers. I think it's the best one out there. Topknots shared by Linda Grimm and Maria Lelinho starring Rocky! Many Thanks! |
